Snopes: Bust a Myth

Interested in urban legends? Ever wondered if Mikey from the Life cereal commercials really died from eating Pop Rocks with Diet Coke (False)? Concerned a friend or loved one is getting taken in by a 419 scam (True)? Snopes.com has been around for ages and is one of the better urban legend sites out there. When I taught basic computer classes, one concern my students had was how they could identify email scams and protect themselves from fraud. I still recommend this site to new email users as a reference if they receive any suspicious email. The "Inboxer Rebellion" and "Frauds and Scams" sections are two of the most useful, but the other categories are fun to look through too!

National Craft Month

March is National Craft Month! I haven't had as much time as I'd like to be crafty myself lately. However, I do enjoy looking at craft books so I can "ooo" and "ahh" over the things I'd like to make. The library has plenty of books for you crafty folks, whether you want to try a new craft or find ideas for a craft you've been enjoying for years.

Read the Movie: The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones cover artPeter Jackson's new film opens in theatres next Friday, January 15. I have been eagerly anticipating this film for quite a while. I read The Lovely Bones, the bestselling novel by Alice Sebold, a few years ago when a coworker suggested it and was blown away. The story is centered around a young murder victim, Susie Salmon ("Like the fish."), who tells her family's sad but hopeful story from a heaven of her own design.

Your Precious Pets: Health Selections

When I got up yesterday, my husband and I discovered our cat Miko was feeling poorly. She had a few accidents outside her box and was meowing in pain. A trip to the vet revealed she had a urinary tract infection. Miko-kitty is not happy about having to take pills, but she's feeling better today. She is getting older, so I realize I'm going to have to watch her health a little more closely. Nothing can replace a trip to the vet, but a good guide to your pet's health will have helpful advice on keeping your friends healthy and what to watch for in a sick pet.

Pick up one of these pet health selections from the library:
