StrawplaneStep aside, paper airplanes…strawplanes were where it’s at!  Kids of all ages, join us for Build It on Thursday, August 22nd at 10:30 AM.  You’ll be crafting your very own strawplane to take home and fly (pending your parent’s approval)!

Newspaper Forts!

Newspaper FortEnd summer on a high note with our LAST Summer Special Craft!  On Tuesday, August 6th at 3:00 PM we’ll be constructing newspaper forts!  This program is recommended for ages 6-12 and families are welcome.  A free ticket is required for admittance and will be available one hour prior to the start of the program.  First come, first served.

Absorbing Art

Absorbinb ArtworkJoin us for our next Summer Reading Program Special Craft, Absorbing Artwork!  This art and science activity will have your child use salt, glue, and food coloring to create their very own 3-D artwork.  This program will take place Tuesday, July 30th at 3:00 PM and is recommended for ages 6-12.  Families welcome.  A free ticket is required for admittance and will available one hour prior to the start of the program.  First come, first served.

Sweet Dreams With Your Own Dream Catcher

Dream CatcherDo you like crafts and want to make something cool this weekend?  Craft your way to sweet dreams with our next Craft & Go, Dream Catchers!  We will be handing out these kits on Saturday, July 27th at 1:30 PM at the Service Desk.  Supplies are limited.  First come, first served.

Happy BalloonsCome be creative and giggle at our next Summer Craft, Farting Balloon Art!  Join us on Tuesday, July 16th at 3:00 PM to make your own special balloon prints.  This program is recommended for ages 6-12.  A free ticket is required for admittance and will be available one hour before the program starts.

Snakes!

Snake!Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson probably wouldn’t be thrilled about our next Tuesday special program, but you will be!  Snake Man is coming to our library with his assortment of colorful and entertaining snakes.  Join us on Tuesday, July 9th at 3:00 and 4:00 PM for two special shows.  This program is recommended for ages 6-12.  Tickets are required for admittance and will be available an hour prior to the start of each program.

Movies, Movie, Movies!

It’s going to be another hot week, but you can cool yourself off with free movies at the library!  On Friday, June 28th at 3:00 PM we will be showing a fun family movie.  On Saturday, June 29th at 1:30 PM we are showing a PG-rated movie.  Call the library for title information.

Rangoli-Inspired Art

Join us on Tuesday, June 11th at 3:00 PM for our special summer craft and learn how to make Rangoli-inspired art!  Rangoli, which is also known as kollam, is a folk art from India.  Rangoli are decorative designs made on floors consisting of bright colors.  The patterns are usually made with materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand, or flower petals.  We’ll be using colored rice for our Rangoli art.  If you’d like to learn more about Rangoli art, watch the instructional video!

 

Are You Traveling With Your Books?

Books visit Glacier BayHave Book, Will Travel isn’t just our SRP theme this year…it’s also a way of life for so many book lovers!  Are you taking a vacation somewhere this summer?  If so, take along your trusty books (or audiobooks or ebooks) and snap a picture of them on vacation with you (please, no people in the picture.)  Then, email your picture to bc@hcpl.net with the subject line Have Book, Will Travel and we’ll print it out and post it on our bulletin board!  If you don’t want to take a picture of your books, send us a picture of a landmark that you have visited (also no people in picture, please.)  Don’t forget to tell us where you or the book traveled to!

Friends of the Library Book Sale & Silent Auction

Silent Auction Local ArtLooking for some great books to add to your personal library, or are you interested in collectibles or musical equipment?  The Friends of the Library are hosting their annual Book Sale and Silent Auction this weekend!  Stop by on Friday, May 17th from 1:00-6:00 PM and Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM to check out the selection of books for sale.  Be sure and stop by the Silent Auction to place your bids on items such as a brand new Line6 electric guitar, Mobile Keys Keyboard, artwork by local artists, Jason Aldean merchandise, gift cards to restaurants, and so much more!
