What They Did in Ancient Egypt

I am always mesmerized by the idea of mummification, hieroglyphics, pyramids and so many different things that the people did in ancient Egypt. I bet you are too, wouldn’t you agree? Well, you know what, let’s do something “Egyptian”. Join us on Tuesday, April 8th at 4:30 pm for Silly Science where we will learn the basic Egyptian concepts of mummies, hieroglyphics, pyramids and more. As always the program will be in the Robin Bush Activity Room. See you then!

We All Scream For Ice Cream

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream! Right? Absolutely! The weather’s warming up too. So guess what? Honk! Honk! Here Comes the Big Truck!

Hey kids, I bet you have seen your share of trucks on the road, right? Have you ever been inside one though? What? Never? Oh, we need to fix that, don’t we? You should get an opportunity to explore a real truck and get your own first-hand experience. Well, do you agree with me? Yes!!!! So, Barbara Bush Branch Library has organized for a real truck just for you all to explore. Join us on March 12th 2014 at 2:30 PM in the library parking lot and have loads of fun!!! See you then and please don’t hesitate in spreading the word!

Birthday Special

Do you know what happened on March 2nd, 1904? A great storyteller was born who explained to us that it’s okay to be different. Dr. Seuss gave us so many wonderful friends and taught us some very valuable life lessons. To honor such a man, his birthday has been marked as National Read Across America Day. This year March 2nd falls on a Sunday so it will be celebrated on March 3rd.

The Winner Is...

Read any Bluebonnet books for 2013-2014? Yes? I thought you must have read at least a few. Well, did you vote for any? I bet you did if you are a third grader. So they announced the 2013-2014 Texas Bluebonnet Winner and the winner is… Ten Rules You Absolutely Must Not Break If You Want to Survive the School Bus by John Grandits. Long title but a wonderful book.

Be My Friend!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! So I guess by now you know that once a month on the third Tuesday, we make crazy good crafts. You do, right? Yes I thought you would! This month on February 18th 2014 @ 4:30 PM in the Robin Bush Activity Room, we will be making some friendship bracelets in the light of Valentine’s Day. Join me in making one or may be more friendship bracelets and have fun!

Let's Celebrate Black History Month

Do you all know that we are celebrating the Black History Month? No? Ah! But now you do. So Barbara Bush Branch Library is presenting a program for adults at the Community Center across from the Library. But is it fair that only adults get to participate in the program? No sir! So do you know what we did? We planned a special performance for the younger ones. We have Ms. Kathy Culmer, a wonderful storyteller to come and do a storytime for us and then we’ll have crafts to make and I know for sure that ‘crafting’ never goes wrong.

Say Hello To Shamrock!

Almost everyday sitting at the Reference desk, I witness a little body or sometimes two making a straight beeline to the big stuffed horse we have in the Barbara Bush Branch Library Children’s Area shouting his name “Maaaaack!!” with pure delight on their faces. Well now to add to that joy, we are very delighted to announce that Mack has been joined by a friend and yes it’s another horse! His name is Shamrock and he is, unlike Mack, gray in color. He has come to us as a very kind donation by Wells Fargo, the Cypresswood branch, made possible for us by Mr. Samuel Edwards, the VP there. We are very grateful to them.
