Let's Not Have Any More Boring School Supplies

Did you buy your school supplies? Oh, what a question, right? Of course you did. It’s been quite a while since schools started. Okay, second question! Do your pencils, pens and notebooks look exactly like your friends? That could be a problem, don’t you think? But there’s not a problem which doesn’t have a solution. Personalize your school supplies to solve this little problem.

Sound Sound Everywhere

Thunder, music, horns or even firecrackers have something in common. Can you guess what? I HEAR it! Yes, it’s sound. We constantly are hearing or listening to something or the other at all times of the day (or the night). Let’s get more familiar with how sound is produced and how it travels.

Come and join us for our Silly Science program- Sensational Sound on Tuesday, September 10th at 4:30 PM. The event will be held in the Robin Bush Activity Room.

And while you are here check out some of the books on experiments with Sounds in the Harris County Public Library system.

It's Time For Winners...

We promised a little plush giraffe and a baby hat at the end of Summer Reading Program, right? So here they are! Drum rolls please. And… the winner is Blake Ali for the Kids Summer Reading Program. Blake read and logged in more than seventy books. He was very cool about letting us take a picture of him and we are happy to share it with everyone.

We also have a Baby Summer Reading Program Winner. And the winner's name is Ezekiel Uhrlass. The baby won a cute little baby hat. Congratulations Blake and Ezekiel. Well done and thank you so much for participating.

Radio Disney @ Your Library!... Say What!

Raise your hands if you love Disney. That’s good! I am impressed. I was hoping for that reaction. Why did I ask that, you say? Well it’s because that Radio Disney Road Crew along with Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services is presenting a fun program at Barbara Bush Branch.

If you are interested in having a wonderful time with games, dances and wait for it… Prizes, you wouldn’t want to miss it. See you at the library on Wednesday, August 21st at 11 AM

Surprise Surprise!

Okay so yes we did tell you that August 10th is the last day of Summer Reading Program 2013 but did we say that’s the last of the enjoyment. I don’t think so.

Mother, Dearest Mother!

M is for Mother, most Marvelous mother to me
O is for the One and Only good thing that ever happened to me
T is for the Tender love she’s given me since birth
H is for the Heaven that all mothers represent on earth
E is for an Exceptional lady, who else can that be
R is for the Reassuring comfort only mama can bring to me

I was taught this song in my elementary school and I have never forgotten it ever since even though I no longer have a clue that who wrote or sang this song but the words will never cease to warm my heart.

It's Good to be Green

Do you know that every year April 22nd is observed as Earth Day? We all love our beautiful planet Earth, don’t we? Yes, yes, yes!!!  When we love something this much, we must also make an effort to preserve it and keep it safe. Every little action and every tiny step counts. There are tons of little things we can do to save the Earth. How about turn off the light of a room when we are done with it? Or may be turning the tap off while we are brushing our teeth? Let’s each contribute and make our planet a better place.
And to start with it, join us for Preschool Story time @10:30 AM to read books about Recycling and make a craft with recyclable articles.
We have quite a good collection of books on the relevant topics:

Rhyme a Little

“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall; Humpty Dumpty had a great fall”. Do you think he fell because he was talking to “Baa Baa black sheep” or was he looking at the “Twinkle twinkle little stars”? Do you recognize these lines? I knew you would! They are all parts of beautiful rhymes we all know and love.

April is the National Poetry Month. Join us for Preschool Story Time on April 9th, 2013 @ 10:30 AM to read some fantastic poems and celebrate the wonderful world of poetry.
And while you are here please do browse through our poetry section. There’s a poem for everyone.
