The Week @ the Katy Library – November 23rd Edition

Don’t forget – the library will be closing early on Wednesday, 11/25, at 6pm. We’ll also be closed from Thursday, 11/26, to Sunday, 11/29.

For all you teens, Monday will be the last day with the Guitar Hero game. Coming next Monday, 11/30, we’ll have our first movie showing at 3:15pm!

 

Taking Cuba In

Cuba: What Everyone Needs to KnowFor someone like me who was born “somewhat recently”, I’ve only known one kind of Cuba: Castro’s Cuba. I hazily remember history lessons on JFK and the Bay of Pigs, but I’d like to get a better handle on the subject. So, I’m reading Cuba: What Everyone Needs to Know by Julia Sweig. Her writing style is keeping me interested, and her firsthand, recent experience of living in Cuba is giving me a view I didn’t see before.

Reception for Myrtle Ross

If you attended a storytime at the Katy Library between 1970 and 2006, you met a wonderful lady named Myrtle Ross.  Tomorrow, November 17th, at 11:00am we're dedicating the children's area of the library to her with a garden reception.  Come by and tell her your storytime memories.  Better yet, come hear one more story read by Miss Myrtle at the 10:30am Tuesday storytime.

101 Things to Do Before You DietLove the skin you’re in. Beauty is more than skin deep. These truths I hold to be self-evident! And so does fashion journalist Mimi Spencer, the author of a new book called 101 Things to Do Before You Diet. With Spencer’s humor throughout the book, I realized that I had probably lost about a pound just from laughing. Check it out, because as the cover says, “Looking great isn’t just about losing weight.”
