HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS!

...you may not like “green eggs and ham”, but you’ll like celebrating the 107th birthday of Dr. Seuss on Wednesday, March 2nd in the Children’s Department!  The fun begins  at 10:30 am with a special Preschool Story time (ages 3 – 5) and continues at 4:30 pm       (all ages) with stories, games, snacks and more.

...who knows, you may see a Thing or Two or a Cat in a Hat!

COMIC BOOKS HAVE COME A LONG WAY!

...in fact, they aren’t even called “comic books” anymore.  The graphic novel and manga collection in the Children’s Department is more popular than ever! By definition, a graphic novel  is “any book in a comic format that resembles a novel in length and narrative development.”  http://childrensbooks.about.com/od/graphicnovelscomics/f/graphic-novel.html  Some of the more popular graphic novels are Spiderman,  Marvel, Garfield, Baby Mouse, Asterix and Star Wars.
Manga is the term used for graphic novels which are created in Japan.  Some of the more popular titles are Pokemon, Hikaru No Go, Akira and Dragon Ball.
While the word “graphic” can be somewhat deceiving, rest assured, it’s still just a good ol' fashioned comic book!
