Art Explorers "travels" to Mexico!

 The next stop on our artistic trek around the world is Mexico!  Celebrate Hispanic Heritage month in the Children's Department on Monday, October 8th at 1:00 pm and Tuesday, October 9th at 4:30 pm.  Learn about art forms in Mexico and create a fabulous chalk rooster drawing inspired by the artist Chucho Reyes!  Each session is limited to 20 children (grades 2nd - 6th).  Call 832-559-4235 to register and for more information!

PUPPETS ALIVE! PUPPETS CREATION!

Register now for this exciting, NEW Afterschool Program in the Children's Department!  On Tuesday, October 2nd  at 4:30 pm use your imagination to create a puppet from an ordinary wooden spoon!  All supplies and instruction are provided and fun is guaranteed!  This program is limited to 15 children (3rd-6th grade).  Call 832-559-4235 to register and for more information about this program!

All Aboard Choo Choo Club!

Work with your child as they create, discover and become ready readers at this early literacy program on Thursdays at 1:30 pm in the Children's Department!  Share the joy of literacy with your child through a special story time with books, discovery, music, movement and crafts.  Using basic language, math and science concepts your children (and you!) will learn and have fun together, discovering the early literacy skills which will help him or her become ready to read!   This program is for children ages 3-6 (and their parents).  Required registration is one week in advance of each session and is limited to 20 children for each.  Call 832.559.4235 for more information and to register!

Art Explorers around the World!

 The first "stop" on our artistic trek around the world is the United States! On Monday, September 10th at 1:00 pm and Tuesday, September 11th at 4:30 pm, kids will have fun learning about art forms and artists from the U.S. and painting a landscape inspired by Grandma Moses!  This program meets in the Children's Department!  Each session is limited to 20 children (2nd- 6th grade).  Call 832.559.4235 to register!

The Summer Reading Program is officially over!  We hope you had as much fun as we did!  As the saying goes, “no rest for the weary”…and with that in mind, your children’s staff has been busy planning our Monday, Tuesday and Thursday programming for your children to participate in throughout the school year.  In addition to our weekly story times, the following weekday and afterschool programs will be offered:  Bluebonnet Book Club, R.E.A.D, Garden Club, Art Explorers Around the World, Choo Choo Club, Pokèmon League and our newest program beginning in October: Puppets Alive, Puppets Creation!  Please access our online calendar for specific dates, times, age requirements and registration information (if applicable), or stop by our Children’s Reference Desk for a monthly calendar of events!  If you haven’t checked us out, please stop by and say hello, we always enjoy meeting new friends!
 

Captain Book is Coming!

...along with her first mate "kitty", Capt. Book will be at the Children's Department on Monday, July 30th at  3:00 pm to open her treasure chest full of stories, songs, fingerplays and more!  This special Story Treasures  program is FREE and sure to delight children of all ages!  Call 832-559-4235 for more information! 

Take a Walk on the Wild Side!

On Monday, July 23 at 3:00pm, when TGR Exotics,a wildlife education park located in nearby Spring, TX brings some of their incredible, exotic animals to the library!  Children of all ages will delight in meeting and learning about a baby joey, a tortoise, an armadillo and one other animal that will remain a "surprise"!  This program is FREE!  Call 832-559-4235 for more information!

Trees for Houston is Coming to the Library!

Kids ages 7-12 are invited to register for a special educational program with Trees for Houston! Learn all about the benefits of trees and basic tree biology.  All children in attendance will receive a "growing together kit" which includes, seed, soil, container and ruler for measuring their seedling.  This program is FREE and limited to 15 children!  Call 832-559-4235 to register!

We're "Mad" about Science, are you?

...well, you can be when you come to the Children's Department on Monday, July 16 at 3:00 pm for the Mad Science special event show!  Learn all about science and do experiments with one of the wackiest scientists you'll ever meet!  FREE and fun for children of all ages (adults too!)  Meet in the Children's area prior to show time.  Call 832-559-4235 for more information.

Non-Toxic Band Performs Monday!

  ...Join Sesame Street songwriter, Joe Romano and his partner, Susan Elliot, "The Non-Toxic Band" as they sing and encourage audience participation with their lively, original musical concert for children of all ages (adults too!).   Meet in the children's area of the library by 3:00 pm on Monday, July 9!  For more information, call the Children's Reference desk at 832.559.4235.
