Japanese Sword Arts Demonstration at the Evelyn Meador Library

Iaido, or Iaijutsu is the art of drawing the Japanese sword. It was one of the Japanese martial disciplines paramount in the education of the classical warrior (samurai). Join us on May 4 as Emily Egan Sensei of Clear Lake Iaido (Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu), and Ash Welborn (Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu) demonstrate some of their different schools' unique styles as the Evelyn Meador Library celebrates Asian American History Month! The demonstration will start in the meeting room at 1pm.

Iaido and Japanese Culture Display!

In preparation for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and our yearly Iaido demonstration, the Evelyn Meador Library's display case is again featuring a display celebrating Japan's history, and martial traditions. Come meet Rex, Evelyn Meador's ever changing book drop monster!

Amongst Evelyn Meador's many oddities, customers returning their library items are blessed with the presence of the ever book hungry book-drop-monster, Rex. Summoned and regularly made seasonally festive by Evelyn Meador's Ms. Jazmin, Rex is a benevolent beast who gently consumes your books, no matter how overdue.

Teen Book Quote Challenge!

Evelyn Meador Teens and Tweens keep an eye out! Starting in February we will be beginning a Book Quote Challenge! Posted somewhere in the library (you'll have to find out where), will be a quote. Find the book it's from in the Library, and find the quote in the book, and you'll win a tasty snack for your efforts! Contact Mr. Ash or Ms. Pearson for details!

Hot Cocoa and Coffee in the Teen Isle

This Thursday at 4:30, even if the weather outside isn't all that frightful, we're still going to be serving up hot cocoa and warm coffee in the Teen Isle for Evelyn Meador's teens and tweens. So stop on by and enjoy a toasty cup of holiday cheer!

Mummies invade Evelyn Meador!

On Wednesday mummies invaded the Evelyn Meador Library! Well... not real mummies, so much as toilet paper roll mummies brought to you by the creative imaginations of local kids and tweens. With a spent paper roll, construction paper, glue, and a hand full accessories, Wednesday's craft was a great success. Be sure to stop by for our next kid craft (usually the forth Wednesday of every month).
