Finding Good Books

Logo for Harris County Public Library Book HuntersOne of the many wonderful advantages to the Internet is the way it makes finding good books easier.  Two websites to help with this are Goodreads and LibraryThing. To use them, sign up for a free account and then list books you have read and enjoyed.  Goodreads gives this invitation to readers on its website:  “Tell us what titles or genres you’ve enjoyed in the past, and we’ll give you surprisingly insightful recommendations.” LibraryThing describes itself as “a cataloging and social networking site for book lovers.”  Join one or both and discover some books you just love! And remember we have our very own Book Hunters service, where you tell us what you like and we suggest similar titles for you to try.

The Speeches of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Photo of Martin Luther King, Jr. Delivering His 'I Have a Dream' Speech, 08/28/1963On a few Martin Luther King days in the past, I have listened to the speeches and sermons of Dr. Martin Luther King on the radio. The first year I did this, I just happened upon a radio station that was airing the speeches. I was very moved by the speeches, especially the sermons, most of which I had never heard.

We can now listen or watch these speeches and sermons on websites such as Martin Luther King Online. This website has the text and video of many of King's speeches. It also has public domain photographs like the one displayed here. These photographs are free to use in projects, papers, reports and websites.

Hope everyone has a nice and peaceful Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
