Picture of Cover of 'La Porte, Texas, 1889-1964 Diamond Jubilee' BookletIn 1964, a Diamond Jubilee celebration was held for La Porte’s 75th anniversary as a community (1889-1964).  An original booklet from this celebration can be seen at the library.  The booklet contains photographs and articles about La Porte history, with titles such as: ‘Attacapa Indians Once Roamed La Porte’, ‘Captain Allein Started La Porte Mail Delivery’, ‘La Porte Means Gate’ and ‘Land Sold for 50 Cents Per Acre’. There is even a ghost story about buried treasure and the pirate Jean La Fitte entitled ‘La Fitte Treasure Here?...

EBooks for Children

The database includes Storybooks, Puzzles and Games, Language learning (French, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian), Non-fiction books, and Read-alongs.  The Read-along section includes books for older children and teens. This database is a great way to improve reading skills and have fun at the same time!

Have Old Paint or Pesticides in the Garage?

Clip art picture of Paint CansThere will be a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at La Porte Public Works Service Center, 2963 North 23rd Street.  This event is only for the citizens of La Porte, Morgan’s Point, and Shoreacres. It is limited to the first 350 households. Business waste will not be accepted. Toddlers Make Quilts

Photograph of "Quilts" Made at ToddlerTime With Ms. MandyDuring a recent ToddlerTime With Ms. Mandy, the toddlers made “quilts” which are now displayed in our children’s department and can be seen in these pictures.  ToddlerTime is on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m., and the program is repeated that same day at 11 a.m. If you have a toddler in your care (age 18 months to 3 years old), join us for stories, songs, movement, and playtime. Seasonal crafts, too! Free at the library.
