Harris County Public Library subscribes to a poetry database that has Twentieth-Century American and British Poetry. It can be accessed from the library or from home through the databases link from our home page.  The library also has numerous poetry books and CDs. Two good websites for poetry are the National Poetry Foundation and The Writer's Almanac with Garrison Keillor.

Too Busy To Read?

Cover of Plum Spooky by Janet EvanovichPeople think librarians get to read all the time. Not so. But one way librarians and other book lovers increase their reading time is to listen to audio books. There are various formats to get audio books, including downloading to an MP3 or other similar device from our digital library. Another way is to check out books on CD. Here are some popular books on CD at the La Porte Branch:  Plum spooky by Janet Evanovich; The associate by John Grisham; The UltraMind solution : fix your broken brain by healing your body first : the simple way to defeat depression, overcome anxiety, and sharpen your mind by Mark Hyman; A big little life : a memoir of a joyful dog by Dean R. Koontz; The host by Stephanie Meyer.

Be Counted

2010 Census LogoThe city of La Porte encourages citizens to participate in the 2010 Census. (“La Porte urges participation in Census,” The Bayshore Sun, 3 Mar. 2010: A1). The data from the Census in Harris County will affect many aspects of the funding our area will receive for diverse services and programs, such as child-care and senior services, roads, job training, schools, community centers, etc. The form for this Census contains only 10 questions. Please fill out and return your form. If you have questions or need help filling out the form, representatives from Census 2010 will be at the library to assist you at various times. Call the library on the day you plan to visit to determine if there will be a Census representative available at the library on that day. The library phone number is 281-471-4022.
