School Reading Lists for Summer 2009

August 24, the first day of school for Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) is right around the corner. Have you read any of the books from the school district's recommended reading lists?

The district's library information services puts together recommended summer reading lists for high school, middle school and elementary school students which you may borrow in the library when you visit the Spring Branch Memorial Library reference desk.

Just in case, however, you want to view or print your list from home, I have put together a list of links to the area district's summer reading lists which are online. Some of the SBISD individual schools have their own recommended reading lists online which I have included when found.

Please feel free to e-mail or post other SBISD area current school reading lists not included below.

Children's Summer Programs at the Spring Branch Memorial Library

My first summer as the new children’s librarian at the Spring Branch Memorial Library has been a whirlwind of fun for me and I’ve enjoyed getting to know all the customers who visit the branch, especially the children. I hope the kids have enjoyed the programs as much as I have and want to remind everyone that there are still three weeks left of the Summer Reading Program (SRP) left, with exciting programs throughout the week for children of all ages. In addition to regular storytimes for infants, toddlers and preschool children to age 6 the branch will be will host special programs with activities appropriate especially for children until August 7th.  This week we will learn the beautiful art of Origami with the Japanese Culture Society of Houston on Thursday at 3 and 4 PM.
