New color on the walls!

It's sunny outside and sunny inside at Galena Park!  Our walls are being painted a bright and happy yellow.  The wall behind our circulation desk and the wall in the children's department will stand out now that they are a new color.  We can't wait for you to see your library, but don't forget you can always visit our other library branches like our Jacinto City and North Channel branches.

New outside wall for computer lab

Our renovations are moving along!  The outside of our new computer lab is almost complete with the brick wall almost complete.  Soon it will be ready to start work on the inside.  Don't forget to visit us at our other Harris County branches while we wait for our renovations to be completed!

Tween Time Fun @ North Channel!

Wondering what Tween Time is all about?  It's about all kinds of things!  Last week we made geometric sculptures out of straws and paper clips while enjoying delicious snacks.  Next month, who knows what we'll be doing.  It could be crafts or science experiments or cooking or a mystery activity!  You'll have to come to our next Tween Time program on Wednesday, April 25th at 4:30 pm to find out!

Inside the computer lab

Last week we showed  you a picture of the outside of our new computer lab.  Today, we have a photograph tracking the progress inside our new computer lab.  It's mostly just wood framing now, but soon it will full of new computers for your use!  Don't forget that while Galena Park library is closed you can visit any other Harris County Library branch, such as our Jacinto City or North Channel branches.

Tween Time @ the library

Hey tweens, looking for a book club just for you?  This Wednesday, March 28th at 4:30pm, bring your latest favorite read and enjoy some light refreshments and socializing! Occasional book related crafts/activities or cooking.  See you there!

One roof up, one ceiling down

Renovations continue at the Galena Park Library.  As you can see, the roof is taking shape on our new computer lab.  And it's just in time with all the wet weather we've been having!  While a new room goes up, an old ceiling comes down.  You can see in the photo of our front entryway that we are now missing our old ceiling tiles.  Coming soon, new ceiling tiles!  Check back to catch up on our progress, and don't forget to visit our other library branches in Jacinto City or our North Channel Branch on Wallisville Road.

e-Reader class @ North Channel

Do you have a Kindle, Nook, iPad or other e-reader?  Did you know you can download free books from the library with your devices?  Come to our "Learn About Out eBooks and eReaders" classes on Wednesday, March 21st and March 28th at 6 pm.  You can bring your device or we will have a Kindle, Nook and iPad available for you to test out.  Registration is required.  You can call the library to register at 281-457-1631.

Construction update @ Galena Park

Galena Park is starting to look different now!  We took some pictures so you can start to track your library's progress.  Check out the inside shot of the library.  Sure looks different with no books or shelves up!  And our new computer lab is taking shape with the walls up and the roof in progress.  We hope you are as excited about these changes as we are!  Check back for more updates as this project moves along.  And don't forget, you can still visit any Harris County Library branch for your library needs, like our nearby Jacinto City Branch on Akron and North Channel Branch on Wallisville Road.
