Taste of Asia

It's that time of year again! The North Channel Branch Library is hosting our Taste of Asia program on Wednesday, Marcy 12 from 3 pm to 5 pm in honor of Asian Pacific Heritage Month.  This program features a fun children's craft as well as a samplling of various Asian foods from Japan, Thailand, China and Korea.  Please join us!

Read your mind

The North Channel Library is happy to support Read Your Mind, a mental health literacy and awareness program of Mental Health America of Greater Houston, with a book display in the center of the library.  On this display, you can find a selection of the many titles North Channel has to help you understand mental health issues in addition to a very helpful reading list provided by Mental Health America of Greater Houston.  Remember, if you cannot find the book title you are interested in, please let a staff member know and we will be happy to request it for you.  Understanding issues in mental health brings wellness to your life.

Great time had at Para Los Ninos!

Para Los Ninos at North Channel LibraryToday was the last program day for Para Los Ninos here at the North Channel Library before summer.  Over 100 children and parents have enjoyed a spring full of Para Los Ninos programs.  Lots of fun was had with stories, activities, and face painting!   Be sure to keep a lookout for our Para Los Ninos sessions to start up again in the fall.

Para Los Ninos is a parent/child workshop series which features bilingual stories and activities developed by the Children's Museum of Houston for children ages 0-7.  Attendees recieve a free ticket to the Children's Museum at the end of the program.  See you in September

Smarty PantsHey teens, are you smarter than your friends?  Wanna prove it?  Then join us for our Wii Game Day today, Wednesday, April 21 at 4 pm as we play Smarty Pants.  Smarty Pants is a fun, no-frills party game where you can strut your grey matter.  Come and play with us today!

Last Day for Tax Assistance

Do you still need to file your taxes?  Tomorrow, April 15th, is the last day AARP Tax Assistance will be at the North Channel Library.  AARP will be at the library from noon to 4 pm to help prepare tax returns for low income and elderly customers.  Please bring your tax return from last year as well as your W-2's and other papers for this year. You may sign-up when the library opens on Thursday at 10 am.

Earth Day Book Display

Earth Day is coming April 22nd.  Get ready by checking out our display of books on how to create an eco-friendly life.  We have books for kids, teens, and adults.  Learn how to Eco Chickgreen your food, home, and even your work! 

"discover with me playgroup" this Friday!

Discover with me!Parents and caregivers of precrawlers, crawlers and toddlers, bring your little ones to the "Discover with Me Playgroup" guided by Ms. Claudia this Friday, March 26th from 2-2:45 pm!  You and your little ones will learn fun things while you play together. You will be guided in unique, developmental play strategies.  Ms. Claudia is an educator with extensive preschool background.  The playgroup is designed for one adult working with one child and will not be appropriate for groups.  If you have any questions, please contact the library at 281-457-1631.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

The littlest leprechaunIn honor of St. Patrick's Day, North Channel Library was visted by the most wee of creatures, leprechauns.  North Channel children created leprechaun masks at both our afterschool craft day and in storytimes.  Now we are ready for the wearing o' the green!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Book Sale Time

Book BagsIt's that time of the month again!  Time to fill your bookshelves with new treasures from the Friends of the North Channel Library Book Sale.  The March book sale will be begin Friday, March 5th and end Monday, March 8th.  All proceeds generated from the book sale directly benefit the North Channel Library and help fund book purchases and special programs for children, teens, and adults.  Come on out and support the Friends of North Channel Library!
