August 3rd is National Watermelon Day!

Every year on August 3rd it is National Watermelon day. So, I thought that it would be fitting to tell you some juicy facts about watermelons and also share a few fun books.

JUICY FACTS

Do you know, that in Japan they grow square watermelons? Why? Round watermelons take up a lot of room in a refrigerator and they are also more difficult to cut into slices. Seems like a very logical and creative solution. That being said, MSN news recently reported the that square watermelon sold for $856. What??? I think that I'll stick with the round ones for now.

Building Strong Readers with LEGO® Books

One of the ways that I support the needs of readers is to find out what their interests are.  As you can imagine, a lot of children (boys and girls) are interested in LEGO® products.  What you may not have realized is that there are several LEGO themed books available for checkout at your library.  I hope that you enjoy this selection.
