Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month @ The Atascocita Branch Library

In September, many children and their families enjoyed the puppet show and craft celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.  We wanted to inform you of another great program that you will not want to miss!

The Houston Grand Opera will present the story "How Nanita Learned to Make Flan."
Nanita makes a pair of shoes that magically transport her far away from home. With the help of an Old Woman and parrot she returns home and learns the secret of making delicious flan.
This program is best suited for school aged children.  Registration is not required.

Happy Birthday to Paul Fleischman

Birthdays are a time to celebrate. Since, Paul Fleischman's birthday was this month, I thought that it would be a great time to share a few of my favorite books by this author.

Paul Fleischman was awarded the Newbery Medal for his book: Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices in 1989Undoubtedly, this is his most famous work. I admire this book, but it may surprise you that it is not one of my personal favorites.

This Week in Twilight Tales: School Days

Many children started school this week with first-day jitters. So, during family storytime,  we read fun books about school days. One of my favorites, is The Three Silly Girls Grubb by John and Ann Hassett. The children adore this fractured fairytale, which is loosely based off of the classic Three Billy Goats Gruff.  Everyone was laughing themselves silly, and we had a wonderful time. Afterwards, children enjoyed making storyboards of the classic fairytale.
