Income Tax Assistance at the Barbara Bush Branch Library

AARP volunteers will be at the library again this year to assist customers in preparing their tax returns.

The volunteers will be here:

Saturday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Monday 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.  The volunteers are not able to take phone calls.  They will be here through April 16, 2012.

Aftrican-American Read-In

Over a million readers of all ages and ethnic groups across the United States are expected to participate in the twenty-third annual African American Read-In.  The  Barbara Bush Branch Library and the E.B.O.N.Y. organization will join forces as official sponsors of this event locally.  The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of  Black History Month Activities.

Classic Movie Morning

On Friday, February 3, Classic Movie Morning will show a film from 1946 starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.  "L. A. private eye Philip Marlowe takes on a blackmail case and follows a trail peopled with murderers, pornographers, nightclub rogues and the spoiled rich."  The movie is scheduled to start at 10:00 am in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room on the first floor.  The library is at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.

Classic Movie Morning

On Friday, January 6, Classic Movie Morning will show a film from 1934 starring William Powell, Myrna Loy and Maureen O'Sullivan.  The movie is scheduled to start at 10:00 am in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room on the first floor.  "A crime/comedy thriller featuring Nick Charles, private eye, and his wife Nora.  The plot unfolds at Christmas when a eccentric inventor disappears after threatening his mistress with a lawsuit for embezzlement."  Come and enjoy the movie.

Workforce Solutions Job Hunting Series

Workforce Solutions Job  Search Seminars will continue in 2012 at the library.  On Thursday, January 5 @ 1:30 pm Workforce  Solutions will present a seminar on creating resumes and completing applications.  The focus will be on online applications, since that is the way most are done these days.  There will be another seminar on Thursday, 19 @ 1:30 on networking and using the Internet to job hunt. Registration is not required.  Just drop in.
