Barbara Bush Library Friends Annual Meeting

Our featured speaker will be Melissa Williams, author of the 'Iggy the Iguana" and "Turtle Town" series and founder of the literacy foundation, READ3Zero, and the leader of creative writing workshops for children and teens.

Come join us to celebrate the success of the Friends Activities over the last year.  Books purchased for the library will be on display. Light refreshment will be served.

Happy Easter everyone!! Barbara Bush Branch Library will be closed this Friday, April 22 for Good Friday.Open Saturday, April 23, and closed on Sunday, April 24.  Everyone have a great weekend and see you next week.

Game Day for Seniors

The Adult/Senior Games Morning will meet in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room on the first floor from 10:30 to Noon. Workforce Solutions Job Hunting Series

The Workforce Job Seeking Seminars will be held in the library on the first and third Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 pm. On March 17th they will present Cover Letters.  Learn how to prepare an effective cover letter to highlight your skills. No registration required.

Genealogy Database Demo

Thinking of climbing that family tree and doing some family history research?  Need to consult the U.S. Census for past years?  Come see how to use HeritageQuest and Ancestry.com, as well as the U.S. Census information.  The Database Demo presentation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00am in the second floor Barbara Bush Library Friends Computer Lab.

Lena LeMay, Landscape Artist

Lena LeMay, native Texan, has been drawing and painting most of her life.  Most of her family could draw, and she did not realize this was a specail talent until she started school and noticed that most children could not.  Lena has never been formally trained, and yet her paintings are in everyway masterfully executed.  She has recently moved to the Houston area to be close to family in her "golden years". 

Lena's work, "Seasons of Inspiration" may be viewed during the month of February at the Barbara Bush Branch Library.

Classis Movie Morning

Classic Movies for Seniors the First Thursday of each month at 10:00 am.  Come and join us on Thursday, February 3rd for a comedy film from 1937 starring Cary Grant, Irene  Dunne, and Ralph Belamy. "A separated couple sabotages each other's love affairs while waiting for their divorce decree to become final."  The movie will start about 10:10 am in the Earl Elliott Room on the first floor.

Workforce Solutions Job Hunting Series

The Workforce Job Seeking Seminars are returning to the library in January on the first and third Thursday from 1:30--3:30 pm. On January 20th they will present information on writing an effective resume.  Learn how to highlight your experience and to avoid common mistakes.

A word about IRS forms arrival

The 2010 IRS Tax forms are now finally, but very slowly, arriving at the library.  Because of the late approval of the 2010 Tax Bill in Congress, the printing has been delayed.  We are not expecting to have a full collection of forms until late in January 2011.  Please come in or call us at 281-376-4610 for the latest  arrivals.  Also see the irs.gov website on the Internet.

Classic Movies for Seniors on the First Thursday of each month at 10:00 am. Come and join us on Thursday, January 6th for a film from 1944 starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. "A charter boat operator in Caribbean breaks his policy of neutrality and takes a job transporting a resistance member to Martinique." The movie will start about 10:00 am in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room on the first floor.
