New Movie Program for Seniors at the Library

On March 4, 2010 at 10:00am the library will present "Senior Movie Morning." The movie this month will be a drama from 1944 that stars Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck.  Come and join us for a look back at a classic. Please call 281-376-4610 for more information.

Charles Criner, artist on display in Art Alcove in February

Charles Criner is the artist on display this month in the Art Alcove.  He writes about his work:  "I have often been accused of not drawing and painting enough pretty people and beautiful things. I believe that art in its truest state is not about what is pretty and what will look good with curtains and tables. Although many artist risk their livelihood by not painting such things.  I believe that art should have a voice of it own."  Come to the second floor of the library and  experience his art.

National African American Read-In, February 7

Fon JamesTakasha FransicOver a million readers of all ages and ethnic groups across the United States are expected to participate in the twentieth annual African American Read-In.  The Barbara Bush Library and the E.B.O.N.Y. organization will again join forces as offaicial co-sponsors of this event locally.  The goal is to make the celebration of African Ameraican literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.  On Sunday, February 7th, from 2:00pm--4:30 pm at the Barbara Bush Library and the Pearl Fincher Museum, activities are planned for adults, teens and children. Authors Dr. Josie Carr, Takasha Francis, and Fon James will be some of the featured guests.

Antique Clock Exhibit in Glass Case in Lobby

Robert (Bob) Kleeman has always shown an interest in making and repairing things.  He built model airplanes as a teenager. In preparation for retirement, he moved on to making clocks.  He bought a few beginner clock repair handbooks, joined a local clock club, and started expanding his skills.  Bob has been repairing clocks for almost 20 years now and still gets great satifaction from restoring a timepiece to its original working condition.  He has repaired all types and all ages of clocks, the oldest ones being from the mid 1800's.  He found those clocks amazingly well designed and manufactured.  He finds it satisfying that these clocks will be around hundreds of years from now. Please come and enjoy this great exhibit in the lobby display case for the month of January.
