CHRISTMAS IS ALL AROUND US.

In the library, we have bows, lights, ornaments, all the things you expect to see during the Christmas Season and more. We have books on decorating, gifts, cooking, entertaining and celebrating. We have programs and events, and it is all free. That is our special gift to you.

DEFINITIONS OF 'FUN' AT THE LIBRARY

Treasure Hunt= picking out the books you want to read.

Reading a Book= opening the door to the whole wide world

Story Time= a place where books come alive.
Self Service Checkout = being big enough to check out books yourself.

MAUD SMITH MARKS LIBRARY GOING GREEN FOR CHRISTMAS

Believe it or Not! You can make a beautiful Christmas Wreath out of those throw away bags that protect newspapers on rainy days. You can’t get any greener than that.
Join us for the afternoon craft on Wed. Nov. 9 at 4:30 PM. This makes a great group activity because it does take some time to finish a wreath. So brothers and sister can work together or Parent and child. Bring the whole family and share the memory.

TRY SOMETHING OLD. TRY SOMETHING NEW.

Knitting dates back to 100 BC. That’s mighty old. Through the ages knitted garments were a necessity.  Knitted socks were found in Egyptian tombs. Sailors introduced knitting to far away ports.  Women stepped up and did their part in World War I by knitting socks for the men at war. Now people like to knit socks for fun. Here at Maud Smith Marks Library we are learning to knit during Teen Time.   We are not planning to knit any socks but have learned to cast on and the knit stitch. The Teens will be continuing their project on Nov. 23 & Nov. 30.

PRICE OF A LIBRARY CARD

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Hispanic Heritage Month goes through October 15, 2006.  Drop by and see our decorations and the posters made by the Spanish Honor Society of Morton Ranch High School While you are here you may want to pick up a coloring sheet or a book on the Hispanic cultures and countries.  We have spanish language books for all ages.

GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO MORTON RANCH H.S. SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY

The Morton Ranch H.S. Spanish Honor Society has really dressed up the Maud Marks Library with the Hispanic Heritage Posters representing such countries as Mexico, Columbia, Equador, Bolivia, Nicargua, El Salvador and Costa Rica.  They are beautiful and very informative, stimulating interest and appreciation in the culture.  Kinda makes me want to travel to each one.  We are so grateful for our community friends.

CLARA'S FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE LIBRARY

Can I just say that my favorite part of the library is our children. When they come in they are excited, glad to be here and ready to find their special book. They learn the routine from a very early age. At the self check out they know to scan under the red laser, look at the screen to see if it took and then wait on the print-out.
We have weekly programs designed especially for each age group, starting with infants, toddlers, and preschool , school age, young adult, adults and seniors.
