Teens: Our Weekly Winners!

Read books. Attend programs. Win prizes. It's just that simple. 

When you log your books in the Atatscocita Branch Library's Teen Summer Reading program, you are automatically entered into our weekly book backpack drawing. 

Love our fabulous programs? Every time you attend a teen program at the Atascocita Branch Library, you can sign up for our weekly program drawing. There is a different theme every week ranging from art to zombies.  Didn't win our weekly drawing? All the slips will be pooled for our Super Awesome Mega Program Prize that will be awarded at the end of summer. It contains items from all our program prize packs!

 

Teens and Tweens: Go Retro with Extreme Tie Dye & Retro Crafts

Go back in time with a twist this week as our teen and tween programs have a retro theme. First up is Extreme Tie Dye on Wednesday, June 19th at 3pm. Suit up and spray your own tie dye shirt. Please bring a prewashed white cotton t-shirt. We will have some on hand but we can not guarantee sizes.

On Thursday, June 20th at 3pm, we will show you a new twist on Retro Crafts like perler beads and shrink plastic. Learn how to turn childhood craft materials into art.

Programs are appropriate for ages 10-18 years old.

Teens and Tweens: Zombie Survival Week @ the Library

This week, the Atascocita Branch Library is getting prepped for the Zombie Apocalypse!

Join us on Wednesay, June 12th at 3pm for Zombie Survival Guide. Learn survival basics, sample MREs, and create a mini-survival kit from a mint tin.

On Thursday, June 13th at 3pm, make a Paracord Wristband to add to your survival kit. It's fashionable and handy.

Both programs are suitable for tweens and teens (ages 10-18 years old). You do not need tickets or reservations but supplies are limited.

Tweens & Teens: Get Poetic @ the Library

Celebrate National Poetry Month with two awesome tween and teen programs.

First, drop by the library, find some books and create a book spine poem for our Book Spine Poetry Contest. Take a photo like the one on the left and e-mail it ata4ya@gmail.com by April 23rd. The winners will be featured on this website.

Next, get your poetry on at the Poetry Cafe. Join us on Wednesday, April 17th at 4:30 for an afternoon of poetry, yummy treats and lively discussion. Bring your own poetry or just something you love to read to share with the group. If you don't feel like reading it aloud, someone will be on hand to give it the Poetry Slam treatment.

Calling All Tween and Teen Writers and Artists!

Calling all tween and teen writers and artists! The Atascocita Branch Library is launching their first library teen zine this May and we need your talent! What are we looking for? Short stories, poems, articles, Top 10 Lists, reviews, photographs, drawings, manga, collages, cartoons, and anything else you can create. 

What’s a zine? A zine is a totally DIY publication that is distributed locally and traded all over the world.

The theme for this issue is “The Beginning and The End.”

Celebrate Teen Tech Week @ Atascocita Branch Library

Join us on March 13th and 14th for two fabulous Teen Tech Week Programs.

On Wednesday, March 13th at 4:30pm, explore the latest in technology with our Technology Petting Zoo. Play Kinect games, check out the latest apps for iPad and Kindle, and learn how to download books from the library. Check out a holographic keyboard and other cool gadgets.

On Thursday, March 14th at 4:30pm, rejoice in the joy of Pi on Pi Day. Get a slice of Pi cake, Pi cookies, and pizza Pi. The person who can recite the most digits in Pi from memory gets a prize!

FOAL Book Sale This Weekend

Join the Friends of the Atascocita Library this weekend for their first book sale of the year! Preview night is Friday, February 8th from 5-7pm for members only. Not a member? Join at the door.

The sale will be open to the public on Saturday, February 9th from 10am to 5pm but don't wait too late or you'll miss out on all the great bargains.

All the money raised by the sale funds programs for all ages.

Teens: Celebrate Chocolate Covered Anything Day @ the Library

Celebrate Chocolate Covered Anything Day  a bit early. On Thursday, December 6th at 4:30pm, enhance fruit, pretzels, and candy by dipping it in chocolate.

Looking for something new to read? Join us for an afternoon of "book speed dating" and book swapping. Also enjoy book related snacks and games. For the book swap, bring any gently read books that you would like to trade. You will be issued a ticket for each book that you can redeem for another book.

Want to amaze your friends and family? Want to impress that special someone? Want to add magic to your performing resume? Learn fantastic magic tricks with professional magician Julian Franklin. Space is limited so registration is required.
