Nidya Granadino and the Panamanian Children's Art Exhibit

The Northwest Library was contacted by Ms. Nidya Granadino. She lives in Houston, but teaches art to the children of her hometown Province of Chiriqui in Panama. Nidya shared wonderful artwork from Panamanian sixth graders with us. These colorful renditions of the Panama Canal, landscapes, still life drawings and depictions of every day life in Panama are sure to please, educate and inspire the children of Cypress, Texas. Come on it to see this wonderful exhibit and leave a comment in the exhibit comment book. The child artists will be able to read what you have written.

James Gives a Tour for the Boy Scouts Books and Reading Merit Badge

This morning our Assistant Branch Librarian, James Meadows, gave a library tour to a local Boy Scouts Troop so they could earn the Books and Reading Merit Badge. Did you know the library carries the Merit Badge Books. Check out this link for the Books and Reading Badge Pamplet. You can order this guide and many others and have them brought directly to your library.

The Many Covers of Bram Stoker's Dracula

As I was requesting copies of Bram Stoker's Dracula for our Classic Reader's Book Club, I was inspired by the many book covers. The art varies so dractically and is very interesting. On November 23rd at 2:00 pm, we will be hosting a book club discussing horror classic.

The Houston Grand Opera's Opera To Go Was a Great Success

Yesterday, The Houston Grand Opera came and visited us here at Northwest Library. We had over 80 people in attendance. They sang an opera written by Composer Enrique Gonzalez-Medina. How Nanita Learned to Make Flan was entertaining for all ages. It was a wonderful sight to see three year olds that just came from Toddler Storytime come and enjoy the artistic talents of local Opera Singers. The story was of a little girl named Nanita who made a magical pair of shoes that transport her far from her beloved father. While away, she learns to make the most delicious flan. With the help of a talking parrot and an old woman, she finds her way back and shares her new culinary skills with all at her first communion. What a wonderful tale for all! What true talents we have right here in Houston! Thank you, Opera to Go.

The Friends of the Northwest Library; it's in the bag!

NW Friends of the LibraryThe Friends of the Northwest Library is a wonderful group of community members that support the library. One current fundraising effort is our canvas book bags. For a donation of $5, you can sport a fine canvas tote with the Friends of the Northwest Library logo on it. You'll be the talk of the town (well, at least the talk of your book club!). So come on in and considering supporting this wonderful organization. Another way to support the Friends of the Library is to come to the next book sale on January 30th. Mark your calendars! Lastly, you can donate your books to the group.
