Coming to Texas

display photoThe next time you visit the library be sure and check out Coming to Texas, a library exhibit featuring interviews with library staff chronicling their unique family heritage and how they became bona-fide Texans.

Created by students of the library ESL Outreach program, volunteer Krista Lewis Abedrabbo and librarian Ruth McDonald. The display was designed by Jill Vu and Zana Kadriu, with Dorrie Scott.

Many thanks to library staff who were interviewed for this project:  Abraham Korah, Glenn Marvel, Monica Norem, Dorrie Scott, Elise Sheppard, Jill Vu, Melanie Wachsmann, and Tracy Williams.

pat o'briens in new orleansIt wasn't New Orleans, but don’t tell that to Scubie Hoyt, a piano bar maven, who led us in song and a rip-roaring good time.

"A vocalist and pianist [Ms. Hoyt] has performed at Pat O'Brien's in the New Orleans French Quarter for more than 25 years.  Known to many by the stage name "Scubie," Mrs. Hoyt plays by request and is accomplished in all types of music, from swing, jazz and blues to pop. She has appeared on the David Letterman Show. She's also played for celebrities such as Carol Channing, Whoopie Goldberg and Jim Nabors" -- Alabama Music Office
