Holidays and Their Movies

The traditional thing to do on New Year's Eve is to go to a New Year's Eve party, isn't it?  But whenever I talk with friends, family, and co-workers about their plans for this big night, many if not most of them say they aren't planning anything special and will probably stay home.  It may not be a night to remember for the ages, but staying home doesn't have to be boring if you spend the evening with a great movie.   If you plan to stay home on New Year's Eve, you might enjoy the company of one of these movies with an end-of-the-year setting.

December 6Title to be discussed:  December 6 by Martin Cruz Smith.  Date of meeting:  Monday, December 7, 2009, at 6:30 PM.  Summary:  Set in the crazed, nationalistic Tokyo of late 1941, "December 6" explores the coming world war through the other end of history's prism -- a prism held by the unforgettable rogue and lover, Harry Niles. Raised by missionary parents, Harry should be as American as apple pie.

Wanted: Adults with Ideas

Do you have an idea for an adult program you’d like to see at the library? Maybe you would like to learn a new skill or try out a new hobby (Wii games for adults? cooking demos? learning a language?), or perhaps you’d enjoy meeting with other adults who share a common interest, such as quilting or creative writing. We would love to hear from you. Simply reply to this blog post, or fill out a comment card or talk to a staff member when you visit the library.  Let us know your ideas and also the day/time you are able to attend programs at the library.  We are already planning some exciting events for 2010. Your input will make the new year even better!
