New Landscape Art for Evelyn Meador

The Friends of the Evelyn Meador Library recently purchased these fantastic crane sculptures to add to our outdoor landscaping. We think they add a real touch of class to our already beautiful facility!

Crane sculpture on North Meyer Road

This one is in the rain garden behind the library. One person who first saw this on their cell phone thought the birds were real!

Friends of Evelyn Meador Holiday Book Sale

Books - Movies - Music!

sale

If you are an avid reader, books are always a welcome gift. And never more so than during the Holiday Season. Even with the surge in sales of Nooks and Kindle devices, many of us still love the feel and smell and tactile experience of a good book.

Having said that, I am happy to announce that after nearly a three year hiatus, the Friends of the Evelyn Meador Branch Library will once again  hold their annual Holiday Book Sale in the library. This year's sale will take place on Saturday, December 3rd from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room across from the Book Store.  As always, all proceeds go to the benefit of the library.

Dodos Make a Comeback in Seabrook!

The rumor that the dodo bird is extinct has been greatly exaggerated.  Take, for instance, the eight orange dodos occupying the children’s area at Evelyn Meador Library.  Never have we seen such a group of popular dodos.  Patrons of all ages like them.  Children play on them. Middle school students ride them like horses.  Adults use them as seating for browsing.  They come in really handy for those who have trouble reaching the bottom shelves.

Yippie ki-yay,  we love our dodos.  Long live the dodo bird at Evelyn Meador Library!

Seabrook 50 Year Anniversary Celebration!

Mark your calendar for October 22nd, and come help the City of Seabrook celebrate its' 50 Year Anniversary. There will be an official City parade at 9:00 and the Rex Meador Park next door to the library will have lots of events and activities throughout the day.  A tour train will take passengers to various points of interest around the city and the library will be one of the designated stops. The Friends of the Evelyn Meador Library will be serving refreshments in our Meeting Room and conducting tours of the library between 10 am and 3 pm. The Friends Book Store will be open as well.  If you missed our opening day celebration or haven't been to the library yet, now is your chance to see our beautiful new facility -- and enjoy the festivities or our citywide celebration!

We're almost through the first month of computer classes in our new building. Attendance has been good - and so has the demand. In October we will add a few new classes to the mix. Along with our basic intro classes, we will include Digital Photo Basics, which will cover some basic digital photo tips as well as how to share your photos online. We will also offer MS Word II and Excel I & II. So, if you have been through the start-up classes such as Computer Basics and how to set up an email account, you may want to sign up for these new classes. Please call soon to register, as seating is limited.

New Artist Exhibit at Evelyn Meador

We have a new Artist exhibiting in our Meeting Room for the month of September. Eric Klusendorf is a local artist who likes to work in a variety of formats, and always welcomes a new challenge. You may have seen his work around town. He has painted murals in schools as well as  portraits of many of our local businesses and homes in the area. Eric also likes wood carving and you can see some of his work in lawns in the area. He has carved some of our tree stumps left over from Ike into amazingly beautiful works of art. It may be a mermaid, or a sea turtle; you just never know where his imagination will take him. Come view an exhibit of his work in our library, and you may find yourself wanting a portrait of your home or business or a carving of your own before you leave!

Teddy Bear Picnic at Evelyn Meador

We had a fantastic time honoring the one and only Winnie-the-Pooh on Tuesday. Pooh turned 90 years old on August 21, 2011 and we threw a Teddy Bear Picnic to Celebrate.
