WHAT CAN I READ NEXT?

Many people get book recommendations from family and friends.  Some join a local book club.  There was Oprah's Book Club too, but not so much anymore.  Who can fill Oprah's shoes?  Enter the largest and oldest library association in the world, the American Library Association!  Slightly less well-known than Winfrey, the ALA nevertheless is a great resource for anyone searching for that next perfect page-turner.  Recently the ALA announced their 2012 Notable Books winners.  The notable titles include:

A TAXING TIME

Looking forward to paying your taxes?   Me neither, but select Income Tax forms are now available at the Crosby Branch Library.  Additional forms may be obtained by logging on to one of our computers and visiting the IRS website: www.irs.gov.  Excluding multi-part forms, one copy may be printed free of charge.  E-filing is another option.  Beginning in February, AARP Volunteers will be available at some Harris County libraries, to assist you with your income tax filing.

THANKFUL FOR BOOKS/BOOK SALE!

Thanksgiving, a celebration of gratitude, is almost upon us.  During this time, many people volunteer in kitchens and food pantries as an offering of service, but did you know there's another way you can give back to your community?  You can attend the Friends of Crosby Branch Library's Holiday Book Sale!  That's right; you actually give back to your community while purchasing books, dvds, and cds, at bargain prices, because all proceeds directly benefit the Crosby Library.  These items make great gifts, too!  The sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 2nd and 3rd, at the library, during our normal hours.  We hope to see you there, and thank you for your service!

BOOK SALE!

This weekend, The Friends of the Crosby Branch Library will be having their used book sale. Don't miss this opportunity to get some incredible bargains on books!  The public is invited to shop on Friday, September 9th from 1pm - 6 pm, and Saturday, September 10th from 10am - 5pm.  There will be a wide variety of materials from which to select, including novels, cookbooks, audio visual items, magazines, children's and young adult materials, and much more!  Prices are as low as 25 cents per item, so you can buy for yourself and your friends.  Proceeds benefit Crosby Branch.

BEING FRUITFUL

A long time ago, I started a vegetable gardening project with a group of women.  Since there was no water nearby, the way we tended our individual plots was to draw water from an open well, and carry one bucket-full at a time to where the plants were.  Then, using a cup, each precious drop of liquid was meted out onto the soil immediately surrounding the seedlings.  This was a lot of work!  How much easier it would have been, if we had access to a faucet and a length of hose!

DIGITAL DELIGHT
