Hansel & Gretel

Do you enjoy stories of deep forests, evil witches and small children?  Not to mention houses made of gingerbread and frosting?  Then mark your calendars to join us on Monday, October 12th, 10:30 a.m. at the San Jacinto Community center in Highlands for a free performance of Hansel & Gretel by the Houston Opera to Go.  The small traveling group of performers visited us here in Highlands earlier this year when they performed a 45 minute updated version of Romeo & Juliet.  I have to say that it was one of the most enjoyable musical performances that I have ever attended!

And the Winner Is...

Nan SmithNan Smith of Baytown!   The prize, a $50 Amazon gift card, was the result of a random computer drawing out of all of the adult readers at the Stratford Branch Library. To be eligible, the adults signed up for the 2009 Adult Summer Reading Program, called Reader Nation, and read a minimum of four books of their choice. The participants were also eligible for 3 county wide drawings featuring gift cards of $100, $150, and $200.

Hurricanes, Here We Come!

We will have a guest speaker on the topic of general hurricane preparedness, and there will also be a time for question and answer (Q&A).  To do more research on your own, check out this website - which is Harris County's Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security.

No registration is required at this time and the whole family is welcome.  Hope to see you there!

Aloha Summer!

As a part of our "Aloha Summer" week here at Stratford Library, we invite all toddlers to come make their own leis at storytime this week, which is at 10 am.  "Aloha" means both hello and goodbye, by the way, so be sure to come say aloha to us this week (and wear your Hawaiian shirts!).

So, as we bid summer goodbye, we encourage you to keep reading and to log any books you may have already read. The summer reading program officially ends this Saturday, but you will be able to log through next week.

Tuesday morning at 10am, we will be visited by the Mobile Dairy Farm.  Mooo!  Then on Thursday, we will host Jungle Jim at 2pm. Bugs! Be sure not to miss either of these!

See you soon~  Aloha!

Quieres aprender ingles? Want to learn English?

Coming soon to the Stratford Library is a new book club for Spanish speaking parents to learn English alongside of their children.

Participants and their little ones will take turns reading to each other from a variety of children's books which are in Spanish and in English, as they are able.

The informal setting will allow parents and children to share favorite stories with each other as well as to participate in fun word games and other activities geared towards language learning.

If you are interested, please sign up at the reference desk. ~ Si tienes interes en este club de libros para aprender ingles, por favor haz reservaciones en la biblioteca.  Official schedule is to be determined.

See you there!  Nos vemos!
