It's beginning to look a lot like....September

Some of you may be wondering what is going on with our hours at Stratford Library.  We had slightly extended hours this summer when it was approximately 400 degrees at high noon every day (slightly exaggerated).  This was so that we could act as a "cooling center" in order to provide a place for people to get away from the heat if necessary. Now that the weather is starting to cool down a bit (i.e. 85 degrees instead of 104), we have returned to our normal operating hours.

These are the following: Monday- 12-8, Tuesday thru Thursday- 10-6, Friday- 1-6, and Saturday- 9-1.  (Also found at the top of our branch homepage where you are reading this).

So come in and see us regardless of the weather, and we'll be looking forward to chatting with you soon!

Hansel & Gretel

Do you enjoy stories of deep forests, evil witches and small children?  Not to mention houses made of gingerbread and frosting?  Then mark your calendars to join us on Monday, October 12th, 10:30 a.m. at the San Jacinto Community center in Highlands for a free performance of Hansel & Gretel by the Houston Opera to Go.  The small traveling group of performers visited us here in Highlands earlier this year when they performed a 45 minute updated version of Romeo & Juliet.&nb...

And the Winner Is...

AND THE WINNER IS…

Nan SmithNan Smith of Baytown!   The prize, a $50 Amazon gift card, was the result of a random computer drawing out of all of the adult readers at the Stratford Branch Library. To be eligible, the adults signed up for the 2009 Adult Summer Reading Program, called Reader Nation, and read a minimum of four books of their choice. The participants were also eligible for 3 county wide drawings featuring gift cards of $100, $150, and $200.
