Anthologies for Everyone!

Woman with stacked booksAs my time to read has diminished, I’ve become a much bigger fan of the short story anthology. It’s a great way to read a complete story in a short amount of time, and (lucky for me) the romance genre has enough anthologies for even the most voracious reader. Many popular romance authors write stories for anthologies in between novels, and you can find an anthology for any type of romance. Check out some of the anthologies the library has available:

Dead in the Family

Southern Vampire Mysteries seriesEvery May, I look forward to reading the next book in Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mysteries. If you’ve only seen True Blood, the TV show based on the books, you’re missing out! The books are a great mix of romance and mystery with a cast of paranormal characters that include vampires, shapshifters, fairies, and telepaths. This year, the tenth book in the series, Dead in the Family, will be released. If you haven’t read the first nine, be sure to start now!

Black Dagger Brotherhood

Last year when my book club read Dark Lover, the first book in J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, I knew that I wanted to read the rest of the series. The story centers on a brotherhood of vampire warriors that protect their race against the soulless humans that target them. While each book focuses on a particular brother (or a supporting character), one story arc continues throughout the entire series. The eighth book in the series will be released soon, but in the meantime enjoy the first seven!

Never Judge a Book by its Title

I have to confess, I love category romances. You know, the ones with the silly titles you see every month at the grocery store. Sometimes their titles disguise a good book, and sometimes, well, the title is the best part of the book. So when I found the Random Romance Title Generator, I thought it was too funny not to share. My personal favorite so far is The Greek NASCAR Driver's Sleep-Deprived Feminist. Try it and see what titles you can come up with, and then try a real book from our catalog:

Best of 2009 Romance

It’s that time of year again! The Romance Writers of America© will be acknowledging the best of 2009’s romances with their prestigious RITA© Award. There are great books in each of the 12 categories, but I’m most looking forward to seeing who wins the award for best paranormal romance. Past winners in this category include Gwyn Cready, J.R. Ward, Kresley Cole, and Karen Marie Moning. All the winners will be announced on July 31, but in the meantime check out some of this year’s nominees:
