LEED Silver Certification!

If you visit the library anytime soon, you may notice halfway up the stairs a new wall decoration:  our brand-new LEED Silver Certification emblem!  LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a recognized green building certification which focuses on five areas of sustainability, including sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.  Kingwood Branch Library officially received this certification two months ago, and now we have evidence of it proudly on display!

Summer is winding down!

Hey, teens, summer is winding down, so if you haven't signed up for SRP, do so fast! If you have, you only need to finish 5 books or 600 minutes to qualify for a certificate and a free book! Be sure to pick up a flyer because we've still got some fun summer programs just for teens!  This week, join us in the meeting room on Tuesday, July 13th, for a 80s themed Teen Movie at 3:00 PM.  On Thursday, July 15th, come to the Childrens Activity Room at 4:30 PM for black light games.  What kind of games, you ask?  Well, you'll just have to come and find out.  Don't miss it!

Congratulations to a Library ESL student

Kingwood Branch Library congratulates Ut Nguyen (pictured second from left), a library ESL/literacy student, on recently being granted U.S. citizenship!  Ut, like many other students, meets on a regular basis with volunteer library ESL tutors in order to improve his use of the English language.  If you know someone who would benefit from receiving one-on-one help with an English tutor here at the library, let us know!  It's easy getting connected.  Just visit the staff on the second-floor, complete a quick application, and then allow the library to move you or someone you know closer to your goals with English!  (Photo, from left to right: tutor Karen Menke, tutor Archie Kaul (back), student Ut Nguyen (front), student Nana Rolita, tutor Susie Day).

Summer Reading Program Fun!

It's not too late to get involved with the Summer Reading Program at the library!  There's plenty of summer left!  Check out the slide show below showing plenty of the fun activities so far!

80's Movies and Henna tattoos!

Teens, it's shaping up to be a great summer so far!  Last week was the duct tape and sharpie tie-dye activities, which were a blast.  If you missed them, no problem.  Ms. Sunni has plenty of fun stuff for the rest of the summer here!  Be sure to stop by The Hideout and pick up a schedule.  This week, we plan on an 80s movie flashback on Tuesday at 3:00 PM and Henna on Thursday also at 3:00 PM, which requires a signed permission form from a parent or guardian.  Join us for more teen-only activities here at the library!
