Workforce Solutions presented seven free seminars to help in searching for a job.  Tuesdays, January 12-February 23, 10am-12pm.  January 12--Resumes; January 19--Evaluate your skills and develop a plan; January 26--Creating references, cover, thank you letters; February 2--Networking; February 9--Interviewing; February 16--Resumes; February 23--Rebranding your skills.   

Toys for Tots

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves are collecting new unwrapped toys for children this holiday season.  Please help a family in need by placing a new unwrapped toy in the collection box inside the library on or before December 21st.

One Day Only! Holiday Book Event

The Friends of the Library will expand the Lobby Books into the large meeting room on Saturday, December 5th from 10 am to 4:30 pm.  The display will feature gift quality books.  Look for classics, children's, novels, World War II, cookbooks, history, craft, art, religion, sports and stocking stuffers.

Donate Gently Used Books

Cleaning house for the holidays?  Consider donating books, dvd's, and cd's to the Friends of the Library.  You get a gift receipt, your items get a new home and the Friends raise money to benefit your local library.  Welcomed are adult and children's items, paperbacks and hardbacks.  (Exceptions are textbooks, magazines and encyclopedias.)  For more information call the library, 713-464-1633.

Driving trip for Thanksgiving?  Boring daily commute?  Pick up a few books on CD to enliven the miles.  Choose from best selling novels, biographies, history, even college lectures.  Browse the Audio wall or request titles online at www.hcpl.net.

Let's Go to the Opera

Ann Thompson previewed Richard Wagner's Lohengrin on October 26.  The Houston Grand Opera production opens October 30th.
