National Poetry Month

Do you long to wax poetic?  Can you haiku? Are you a poet who just doesn't know it?

Join the North Channel Creative Writing Club as we celebrate National Poetry Month on Saturday, April 23 at 2:30 pm.  Experiment with new poetry forms and read works by authors you have not tried before.

Join the Academy of American Poets on Thursday, April 14th to celebrate Poem in your Pocket Day:  "The idea is simple: select a poem you love during National Poetry Month then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, and friends."

This Time Together by Carol Burnett

With a tug on her ear and a smile for her Nanny, Carol Burnett would close her variety show with “I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together.”  In her memoir, This Time Together, Carol uses short vignettes to illustrate her rise to stardom and to allow us another glimpse into the people who passed through her life and across the stage of her show.  From hotel escapades with Julie Andrews to the awkward first meetings with her heroes, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant, she shares laughs and worries.

The North Channel will be discussing This Time Together on Wednesday, February 23 at 10 am in the meeting room.  The March selection will be The Chili Queen by Sandra Dallas.

In An Instant by Lee and Bob WoodruffWhat would you do if they told you that your world would never be the same?  That in an instant everything you knew had changed?  In 2006, Lee Woodruff was told that her husband, anchorman Bob Woodruff, had been hit by an improvised explosive device while embedded with the military.  "In An Instant" is a memoir written by both Lee and Bob Woodruff that recounts the events leading up to that life-changing moment and its aftermath.

The North Channel Book Club will discuss "In An Instant" on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 in the North Channel Branch Library meeting room from 10 am until 12 pm.

The February book club selection will be discussing "This Time Together" by Carol Burnett.

It’s that time again. The time to set new resolutions!
