Love Is In the Air...

heartValentine’s Day is just around the corner and love is in the air! Although there is a part of me (all right, it’s a pretty big part) that adores movies with huge explosions and impossible stunts, there is an even bigger part that loves sappy love stories gloriously rendered on film. In some ways, these love stories are just as improbable as the action-packed thrillers, but that doesn’t seem to matter. What does matter is that they are grand and sweeping, sweet and funny, sometimes sad, but always hopeful.

In 2002, the American Film Institute unveiled a list of the 100 Greatest Love Stories of all time. I don’t know if I agree with the entire list, but it is worth a look. Where did your favorites rank?

On a Musical Note...

musical score & batonOne of my favorite aspects of a movie, beyond the plot and the characters, the dialogue and the costumes, is the orchestral soundtrack. I love how a skilled composer can use the score to build emotion, foreshadow danger, identify characters, establish setting and, most important of all, pull the viewer into the heart of the movie. I firmly believe that a film without a score to support it would fall apart. At the very least, the movie would lack the added emotional depth a successful film score provides.

Movies & Music: A Holiday Tradition

origami ornamentChristmas is my very favorite holiday. I love everything about it. I love that Christmas lasts all month and one radio station plays nothing but Christmas music. I love trimming the tree and hanging stockings, baking cookies and eating them, too! I love giving presents (and receiving presents), dreaming of a white Christmas, and spending time with family. Most of all, I adore singing all my favorite Christmas songs and curling up on the couch and watching all my favorite Christmas movies.
