Farewell Steve Jobs

apple iPodOn Wednesday, October 5, Steve Jobs, the visionary behind Apple, passed away after a lengthy illness. I was late to join the club of enthusiasts devoted to Apple products, but since saving my pennies and buying my first iPod in 2004, I have been a loyal fan. Like many people around the world, I am saddened by the loss of such a charismatic, forward-thinking individual.

SAT Practice Test

pencilGetting ready to take the SAT? Need to improve your scores? Kaplan is hosting a free SAT practice test here at the library. The practice test will be offered on Saturday, October 8 from 10:15am to 2:15pm in the first floor Meeting Room. Students will be given their scores and a detailed analysis the following Saturday, October 15 from 10:15am to 11:15am. Registration is required. And the Emmy Goes To...

EmmyLike many people, last Sunday I watched the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. Although not as glitzy and glamorous as the Academy Awards, I do enjoy seeing all my favorite television personalities in one room. Unlike the Oscars, where the top prizes are practically certain a few weeks before the awards show, the Emmys tend to have more surprises. This year the awards were particularly unpredictable, with frontrunners passed over for newcomers and underdogs. It certainly made for an exciting evening!

One-Two Punch

boxing glovesThis weekend, a movie I have been looking forward to for months finally arrives in theaters: Warrior. The story of two estranged brothers meeting in the Mixed Martial Arts arena, Warrior promises to be an intense addition to the inspirational sports movie genre. I always appreciate a good inspirational sports movie, but those featuring fighting are some of my favorites. I can remember watching Jean-Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport on TV repeatedly as a teenager and, to this day, it remains one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.
