Movies & Music: A Holiday Tradition

origami ornamentChristmas is my very favorite holiday. I love everything about it. I love that Christmas lasts all month and one radio station plays nothing but Christmas music. I love trimming the tree and hanging stockings, baking cookies and eating them, too! I love giving presents (and receiving presents), dreaming of a white Christmas, and spending time with family. Most of all, I adore singing all my favorite Christmas songs and curling up on the couch and watching all my favorite Christmas movies....

A Film Feast

chocolate pastaWith Thanksgiving a day away and the Christmas holidays just around the corner, my thoughts have, quite naturally, turned in one direction: food. This season, more than any other time of the year, seems to revolve heavily around food. Families gather to eat sumptuous meals, the good china is dusted off, kitchens are noisy with chatter and the clanging of pots and pans, and overeating is practically a requirement.

Although there aren’t many movies specifically about Thanksgiving, filmmakers, particularly those working outside Hollywood, have realized the importance food plays in relationships and incorporated it into films. If the Thanksgiving feast just isn’t enough this season, browse the HCPL catalog and request a food movie today!

Movies for Veterans Day

American FlagEach year on November 11th, Americans celebrate Veterans Day. On this day, we honor all men and women who have served in the armed forces, whether in times of peace or war. Over the years, Hollywood has produced a number of movies that center on wars fought by the American military. Many of these films have won major awards, and they all offer insightful and, often, harrowing views of life in combat.

If you are in the mood for a war movie, browse the HCPL catalog and request one today!

Family Friendly Halloween

pumpkinsI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I adore fall. I love it not only because the leaves are changing and the temperatures are dropping, but because fall is packed with holidays. I confess that of all the fall holidays, Halloween is my least favorite, but it certainly has its advantages. Candy is, naturally, the best part of any Halloween celebration, but the movies are a close second. My personal favorite Halloween movies aren’t the gory ones or the scary ones. I love the classics and the cartoons – the ones that adults and kids can enjoy together. ...
