Movies & TV for a Vacation

Big BenHave you ever had an experience that vividly reminds you of a particular movie or an episode from a TV series? Something that makes you want to curl up on the couch as soon as you get home and watch the movie? I recently spent two weeks in England, Wales and Ireland and it seemed like everything I saw reminded me of one movie or another. After the first few days, I started keeping a mental list of movies and TV shows in my head, things to watch when my vacation was over and normal life had resumed. By the end of the two weeks, the list was quite extensive!

Below is part of my mental list of movies and TV shows, along with what I saw that made me think of each one.

Fall = New TV

autumn leavesDespite the scorching temperatures today, it is, as of September 22nd, officially fall! I love this time of year. In Houston we may not have the multitude of changes that sweep over other parts of the country, but we do have our own version of fall. The temperatures will (slowly) start to drop and the leaves will (eventually) change color. There will be acorns and dry leaves for crunching, pumpkins for carving and pie-making, and bonfires for marshmallow roasting. Most important of all, there will be new episodes of my favorite television shows!

If you are like me, each new TV season brings not only old favorites, but new shows I wish I had time to watch and returning shows that suddenly spark my interest. If I watched everything I wanted to, I’d never do anything else! ...

Football, Football, Football!

footballs on a fieldFootball season is here! At least that’s what the radio tells me. This morning while I was sitting in traffic, I quickly noticed that every single station was discussing opening weekend, speculating on how the Texans will do this season, or finalizing fantasy football teams. I admit, this wasn’t my favorite thing to listen to during my commute, but it did get me thinking about movies. I may not be the world’s (or even the library’s) biggest football fan, but I do like good football movies. They make me think of fall and marching bands, team spirit and hot dogs, and standing on the bleachers at

college, cheering on my team.

If you are in the mood for a football flick, browse the HCPL catalog and request a movie today!
