Dr. Duck visits from Urgent Care for Kids

     At story time Tuesday, Dr. Duck visited the West University Library.  He listened to the stories and sang with us.  Dr. Duck wanted to let the community know about the Urgent Care for Kids facility nearby on Bissonnet just past Kirby Drive.  There are information flyers and magnets upstairs in the Children's Section.

Gingerbread man cookie decorating program

   Wednesday, children had a great time decorating gingerbread men cookies for the holidays.  Gingerbread cookies were baked by Moeller's Bakery and were delicious.  This program was sponsored by the Friends of the West University Library.

Children can decorate a gingerbread man cookie at a holiday program on Wednesday December 11 at 3:15 PM.  The program is open to children ages 5 to 11 years old.  The library will supply all the frosting and decorations for the event which will be upstairs in the Children's Section.

Halloween craft program

       Children gathered upstairs in the Library Wednesday afternoon to create and decorate Halloween trick or treat bags.  From crayons and assorted precut facial shapes, the group of children all created unique items.  It was amazing to see how the different jack-o-lantern faces emerged on the bags.

Diaper Drive for Star of Hope

      Star of Hope Mission reaches out to almost 1,000 homeless Houstonians
everyday, many of the clients are babies and toddlers. The Mission uses
about 1,200 diapers each week between its two family facilities and is in
constant need of diapers, especially the large size.  There will be a bin at the West University Library from Tuesday August 13 through Friday August 16 to collect diapers and other non-perishable baby supplies.

Leftover craft program

Kids - Join us Wednesday August 14 at 3 PM for an assortment of leftover crafts.  If you missed the Australia craft program or the butterfly mobile program, here is your chance to make some fun items.  We have craft supplies left over from this summer and children are invited to attend and make a craft or two while supplies last.  We may even have coloring sheets for younger children.

Lego program at the Library

   Wednesday August 7, at 3 PM, come to the final summer library program and experiment with Legos.  Maggie Chan - of Bricks 4 Kids - will show us how to build an airplane using Legos. This program is for children ages 4 years and up.

Meet some birds of prey

       Come meet some local birds at a program on Wednesday July 31 at

3 PM.  A representative from the Houston Audubon Society will bring various birds and help us learn to recognize them by sight and sound.

Make your own makeup -Teen program

Join tweens and teens as you make homemade beauty products, using all natural ingredients from your home pantry.  Make something for yourself or as a gift.  Tuesday July 30 at 3 PM next door at the Senior Center.

Irish dancers at the library

  Irish dancers from O'Maoleidigh School of Irish Dance, in Bellaire, will entertain everyone at the library on Wednesday July 24 at 3 PM.  You'll see dancers in costume performing dances and showing us the basics of Irish dance.
