The happy news at the West U Library is - Margaret had her baby girl Thursday September 13.  Baby Melina weighed 7 lbs 6 ounces and has a full head of dark hair.   Mom and baby are both doing well.

We have a clipboard to write a note to Margaret if you want to send her good wishes the next time you come to the library.

Getting Ready for Back to School

Upstairs in the Children's Section, we're getting ready for Back to School.  We have a display of books about going to school; the Bluebonnet books are available and we have sharpened pencils and binder paper ready.  Enjoy the last days of summer vacation.  When you return to school and get your various assignments, come to the Library as soon as possible.  The books or subjects you're looking for may not be in.  Please allow enough time to request items from another library.  We're here to help !

Sharks and rays end 2012 Summer Reading Program

Bill Balboa, of the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, shows the mouth and teeth of a small shark.  Other sea creatures - such as rays, alligator gar and redfish - were also on display.  Children learned about the different creatures, asked questions and were invited to touch the animals at the end of the program.  This was a great final program for our 2012 summer.  Attendance at programs was high, children read books for prizes and all seemed to have a great time.  Thanks to the Friends of the West U Library for providing funds for many of the programs and library decor.
