Summer Reading Program for Babies

   Starting June 3, babies will have their own Summer Reading Program.  Ask for a registration form.  When you fill it out, you will receive a brochure listing numerous activities to share with your baby.  Some activities are reading to your baby, singing songs or nursery rhymes, blowing bubbles and more.  To complete the program, you just need to perform 10 of the activities to receive a free board book, a duck-shaped game piece [with your child's name] to post on the window upstairs , a certificate and to be entered into a drawing for a baby hat.  The program will run all summer, June 3 through August 10.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss

      Let's celebrate Dr. Seuss' wonderful imagination with a Dr. Seuss story time Tuesday March 12 at 10:30 AM.  Preschoolers and care givers will enjoy 2 Dr. Seuss books, some songs and a coloring craft.

We have lots of Dr. Seuss books here at the Library for you.

Bring your child to the Library Saturday

Saturday February 2 is Bring Your Child to the Library day.  There will be a special display of favorite books the staff recommends upstairs in the Children's Section.  Stop by and select a few to enjoy reading at home.

Unusual holiday music at story time

   Children and parents were treated to unusual holiday music at story time.  Customer Leo Sacchi, brought his musical garden hose to entertain children while they worked on a craft after story time.  He played the hose as he would a french horn.

Reindeer at the Library

  Monday evening customers were treated to the sight of 2 reindeer on the library lawn in anticipation of the West U tree lighting celebration.

Book Sale at the Library

Plan to stop by the West University Library this Saturday, November 3, from 10 AM to 2 PM for the Fall Book Sale.  We have a wonderful selection of children's and adult books.  Whatever you're looking for - cookbooks, history, fitness, current fiction - you'll find it at the Friends of the West University Library Fall Book Sale.

Prices range from $ .35 for paperbacks to $1 plus for hardback books.  See you there !

Halloween craft program for children

Next Wednesday, October 24, at 3:15 PM children will have the opportunity to create their own paper plate mask.  Using their imaginations, children can glue a variety of ears, noses, eyebrows or other features to paper plates and create a unique mask.  The program will appeal to children ages 4 to 11 years.  The Library provides all supplies - you bring your imagination.

She decides to work on the cottage so she can sell it and gets local hunky handyman Derek Ellis to help her. A missing professor, disappearing antiques and old secrets all combine for a first-rate mystery and a frightening surprise ending.

Salsa Workshop

       Friday September 28 at 4 PM,  Dance Houston will present an introduction to salsa.  Learn the fundamentals of salsa dancing.   It's fun for all ages.    Space is limited to 30 people.  Free tickets will be handed out before the workshop on a first-come first-served basis.

Margaret had her baby !

The happy news at the West U Library is - Margaret had her baby girl Thursday September 13.  Baby Melina weighed 7 lbs 6 ounces and has a full head of dark hair.   Mom and baby are both doing well.

We have a clipboard to write a note to Margaret if you want to send her good wishes the next time you come to the library.
