Humphrey is settling in

Humphrey the hamster is settling in at the West U Library. He sleeps a lot during the day but wakes up about 5:30 PM to begin his nightly activities.  Humphrey loves to run on his wheel and has discovered the joy of hiding in the plastic strawberry.  Sometimes he mounds a pile of paper fluff to barricade the doorway.  Recently Humphrey took a break in his activities to pose for photos.

Welcome Humphrey

Our library has a new member upstairs in the Children's Section.  Humphrey the hamster has taken up residence in the picture book area.  Humphrey is a long-haired, tan colored male hamster who is almost 3 months old.  We're learning his habits and are finding that Humphrey is not as neat a "housekeeper" as our previous friend, Dora, was.  He is active and enjoys racing on his wheel.  Come meet Humphrey and check out some of our books on hamsters.

Goodbye Dora

Dora - the library hamster - has died.  She had a happy, eventful life at the library since we adopted her in August 2009.  Dora was around a year old at that time - middle aged for a hamster.  She was a lively spirit, entertained children who stopped by her habitat upstairs and went on several unplanned "walk-abouts" when she accidently got out of her cage.  Dora will be missed by all at the library as well as several ferrets and her friend, Norman, the cat.

Holiday Craft program

Children enjoyed decorating holiday ornament cookies and creating snowflakes from puff paint.  63 children participated in the activity and enjoyed eating the products of their creativity.  The delicious cookies, frosting and sprinkles were generously donated by local baker "Julie Made 'Em."

Book sale and raffle

The Friends of the West University Library will hold their Fall book sale from 10 AM until 2 PM on Saturday November 20.  A nice assortment of books for all ages will be available.
