Pain? Fatigue?

If you are always tired, you feel like you wake up 100 times during the night, and you have aches and pains all over your body, you MAY have fibromyalgia. On Monday, October 19, at 6:30 pm, Dr. Sammy Tao will conduct a workshop at the Fairbanks Library about the symptoms of fibromyalgia and various ways to treat them. It’s free, so why not come? Call the library at (713) 466-4438 to let us know if you plan to come.

People Who Need "People"

Everybody knows libraries have books, but did you know that we also have newspapers and magazines? Fairbanks Library has about 80 newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Newspapers include the Houston Chronicle, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, Investors’ Business Daily, Barron’s, and the Houston Business Journal. There are many different magazines for adults. They range from People and House Beautiful to Scientific American and Consumer Reports. And we didn’t forget the kids! We have magazines for them, too.

Want to be green?

Are you looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly? Your neighborhood library can help. If you feel clueless, you could start with The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Green Living or 50 Simple Things You Can Do to Save the Earth. If you want to take it further, you could move up to

What's going on?

On this web page, there is a photo of our building.  To the right of the photo are our hours, and under the hours, our phone number, the Branch Librarian's name and two inconspicuous little words, "Branch Calendar."  I'm mentioning this because those two words are so inconspicuous, but so important.  Clicking the words "Branch Calendar" will bring up an online calendar that shows you everything that's going on at our branch this month.  From there, you can click "Next" or the abbreviations for other months.  This is a great way to see both regular programs and special events that are going on at your neighborhood library.

READY FOR ANOTHER HURRICANE?

Disaster preparation experts from the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will offer a free hurricane preparedness workshop at the Fairbanks Library on Saturday, September 19, at 2:00 pm. They will show you what items should be included in your disaster emergency kit and how to set up your supply checklist. They will also explain what steps you should take if you are ordered to evacuate, show you your evacuation routes, and give you helpful phone numbers that you will need in case of a hurricane. In addition, they will teach you how to make a disaster plan for your family and how you can best protect your family and home. They will also answer questions from the audience. These workshops are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.
