APE volunteers are throwing a Christmas Party for kids!

After a grueling couple of months making Thirst For Hunger APE's teen volunteers could have done any number of things this winter. (I for one suggested quiet writing sessions, unsupervised free arts and crafts blocks of time, or you know long nap times...) But the teens at APE had other ideas, they wanted to throw a Christmas Party for the children of the Aldine Library.

We have put the time in. We tried out a number of holiday crafts and chose the best ones. We have put together a menu of our favorite holiday treats. And even chose a great kid's holiday film!

We are very excited to give the children of Aldine this present for Christmas! Come out and join the fun and celebration, Tuesday the 17th at 4pm in the meeting room.

Our new YA book display feels the chill

photo of the young adult winter book displayAs Texans y'all don't really seem used to this cold weather stuff. So let a Yankee clue you into how to survive: drink lots of hot beverages (spiced cider is my favorite!), always have a few warm layers (not just mittens, be sure to have slippers or thick socks), make sure you've got something that will cut the wind (wind breakers are life savers), and find an enthralling book you can crawl under the covers with it for hours!

My winter book display is going to feature my favorite reads. So you can build a blanket fort (or just pile some on top of you), get lost in the book's pages, and forget about this chilly Texas winter.

APE's Thirst For Hunger Premieres Friday

Thirst For Hunger PromoFor months now APE has been working on a Hunger Games parody video we have entitled Thirst For Hunger. Our teen volunteers wrote the script in perfect format, made storyboards before we shot our scenes, acted superbly in, and filmed this epic little video. And now, this Friday, APE invites you to come watch the world premiere with us! 5pm in the meeting room, come watch the funny- er magic? Er funny magic?

Or if you cannot make it in person, please join us here on the blog, where we will post the video at the same time for our digital premiere.

Either way we're excited to have you join us Friday at 5pm for the funny magic.

Creative Teens: Get Volunteer Hours For Your Art

example of APE artworkAldine' branch library has an exciting artistic teen volunteer corps: Aldine Project Experience (APE). It is a group of dedicated self directed 13-18 year olds who work on a wide variety of projects to beautify and culturally enhance our community.

We are looking for creative youngsters to join our ranks and help us create new projects for this upcoming year. Do you have a lot of creative ideas? Do you love making visual art, film, or audio work? Or do you wish you had a chance to try such things? Then we want you to join up!
