Computer Classes for August

The following computer classes will be offered in August:

*Internet Basics I – presented on August 7th, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. 
*Internet Basics II - presented on August 8th, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
*Internet Basics  III – presented on August 21st, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
*Internet Basics IV – presented on August 22nd, 3:00 – 4:40 p.m.

*This class introduces a first time user to the the World Wide Web. Participants will be familiarized with terms used throughout the Internet. We will be visiting websites, talk about browser options, and security.

 

Please register in advance as space is limited to 8 students.

To register for classes you may either stop by the reference desk or phone the library at 281-484-2036 and one of the librarians will sign you up for the classes.

The following computer classes will be offered in July:
*Computer Basics I – presented on July 10th, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.  
*Computer Basics II - presented on July 11th, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. 
*Computer Basics  III – presented on July 17th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
*Computer Basics  IV – presented on July 18th, 3:00 – 4:40 p.m.

*This class introduces a first time user to the desktop computer. Participants will be familiarized with terms used and with different components and features of the computer. 

Please register in advance as space is limited to 8 students.

MS PowerPoint I - presented on June 5, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

MS PowerPoint II - presented on June 6,  3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

MS PowerPoint III - presented on June 12,  3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

MS PowerPoint IV - presented on June 13, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
 

*Must be familiar with using the Windows PC environment.

Reducing Stress Through Meditation

On Thursday, April 25th at 2:00 p.m., join William Smith, retired Army Lt. Colonel, as he discusses the extraordinary effect of meditation to reduce stress-related responses, improve concentration, enhance clarity of thought and mental equilibrium.  He will also present a simple, yet powerful meditation technique that can enrich one's life personally, professionally and spiritually.

William Smith, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel engineer, has a master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems from the University of South Carolina.  As an Army officer, he pioneered this new technology within the Department of Defense. William is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and has held many leadership positions during his successful 20 year military career.

*Microsoft Word II - presented on April 3rd, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. 
*Microsoft Word III – presented on April 15th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
*Microsoft Word IV– presented on April 17th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

*Files & Folders IV– presented on March 27, 3:00 – 4:40 p.m.

AARP Tax-Aide Offers Free Tax Assistance

Beginning Friday, February 1, 2013, volunteers with AARP Tax-Aide will be offering free tax assistance Mondays and Fridays, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Please bring the following with you when you come:


* copy of last year’s income tax return(s);
* W-2 forms from each employer;
*unemployment compensation statements;
*SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits;
*all 1099 forms showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets;
*1099-misc. showing any miscellaneous income;
*1099-R form if you received a pension or annuity;
*all forms indicating federal income tax paid;
*dependent care provider information (name, employer, ID, Social Security number);
*all receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions;
*Social Security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents

*Internet Basics III – presented on February 4th, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.  
 Internet Security- presented on February 6th, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. 
 E-mail Basics I – presented on February 25th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
 E-mail Basics II – presented on February 27th, 3:00 – 4:40 p.m.

*You must have taken Internet Basics I and II.
