monkeying aroundAre you opinionated? Are you creative? Do you want to earn volunteer hours? Do you like food? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re the perfect candidate for the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). Our next meeting is Monday, January 31 @ 4:30 pm in the first floor Meeting Room.

What exactly is TAB, you might ask? The Freeman TAB provides an excellent leadership opportunity to local teens who provide input on Library programming and events, Library materials, and marketing. TAB members also participate in special volunteer and community-oriented projects.

What is Your Library Love Story?

"An overwhelming majority of Texas voters say their public library is very important (79%, with an additional 13% saying fairly important) to their community and 90% are satisfied with their public library (including 72% who are very or extremely satisfied)."

Genre Busters!

genre mash-upWhat exactly is a genre? The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature defines genre as: “a distinctive type or category of literary composition, such as the epic, tragedy, comedy, novel, and short story.” So genres could include things like whether a book is a mystery or science fiction or romance, or how the text is presented, whether it is a play, a novel, a poem or a story. Like any other broad label, genre terms can be useful (like I’m not a big fan of romance and knowing this can help me find something I like better) or a hindrance (I like historical fiction, but sometimes romance is an element in these stories and I just have to get over it). And, when you look really closely at some books you enjoy, they can blend genres or make us rethink our neat little categories: the genre buster! Wha...
