Hail the Mighty La Porte Bulldogs

With September comes football and this month's display is our homage to the hometown heroes and heroines of the gridiron. Displayed are three from the collection of La Porte yearbooks showing the football teams of 1939 and 1967 and the cheerleading squad of 1975. You can look through any of the yearbooks any time you are in the library. We do have some gaps in our collection. If you have yearbook from any of the following years , please consider donating it to the library: 1940-46, 1951, 1952, 1954, 1958, 1961,  and 1971.

Meet La Porte Branch's Adult Summer Reader Winner

Each branch in HCPL had a $30.00 gift card to award to one adult who completed the Adult Summer Reading Program. By random draw our winner was Becky Roderick. Ms. Roderick was pleased and surprised when I called her about her prize. She told me that her daughter has participated in the children's program and this year she decided to sign up for the adult program. It certainly paid off for Becky not only in a summer of good reading but a gift card to boot. Congratulations!

Mystery Maven Recommends

This summer when I signed up for the Adult Summer Reading Program, I used Mystery Maven as my User ID. I chose this because nothing makes me happier than to recommend a book or series in the mystery genre to people. Last night found me at Houston's jewel of a bookstore, Murder by the Book for an author signing by Louise Penny. She writes a wonderfully complex yet lyrical series of mysteries featuring Chief Inspector Gamache of the Surete du Quebec. So please do yourself a favor and check out one of her eight award-winning books.
