A VISIT FROM AUTHOR WARREN HANSON

Author Warren Hanson

Author Warren Hanson was a special guest at the Knowledge Exchange program on May 28. Warren has recently relocated to the Spring area from Minnesota. He is an author, illustrator, singer and musician who has written many books for adults and children, including "Reading With Dad", "Older Love", and "Beginning." He has become well-known as the illustrator of "A Cup of Christmas Tea."

The Knowledge Exchange is an intergenerational group that meets at the library every Friday at 2:30 to knit and crochet and share these skills with others. They knit chemo caps for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, lap blankets for the Veteran's Hospital, and helmet liners for active duty soldiers.

Warren read the group his very appropriate book called "Kiki's Hats," a lively story of a spunky and lovable woman who knits hats and gives them away, and in the process teaches everyone the joy of giving. Contact Warren about visiting your group through his website.

Barbara Bush Library Loses a Friend

Peggy Kruckemeyer and Paul Wahlberg

Longtime Houston Golf Association board member Paul Wahlberg passed away Monday (May 24) at the skilled nursing care facility where he had lived since the fall of 2004. Wahlberg served the HGA for over 50 years and was accorded the honor of "board member for life."  Wahlberg was a past Tournament Chairman of the Shell Houston Open (1970) and served for many years as the head of what was then known as the Charity Selection Committee for HGA. An architect by profession, Wahlberg became identified with the organization's penchant for community service and charitable giving.

Peggy Kruckemeyer, Past President of the Barbara Bush Library Friends, fondly remembers Paul’s involvement with the library. “Paul was a great friend of the Barbara Bush Library. The HGA's initial grant of $15,000 grew to $50,000 in grants plus thousands more through allowing the Friends to work at the Shell Houston Open and the Tournament of Champions. Paul was instrumental in naming the library meeting room after Earl Elliott. Most importantly, he was a great guy who treated our initial fundraising attempts as serious and worthy endeavors giving us the confidence and credibility to go on and raise hundreds of thousands for the Barbara Bush Library.”
