Don't forget!

Do you know what Memorial Day is REALLY about?  Everyone take a pause this Monday to remember our fallen service men and women who have died that we might live in this wonderful free country.  It has been observed since the late 1800s but has only been a national holiday since 1971.  For more on the history of Memorial Day, click here.

The Maud Marks will be observing this very solemn day on Monday with the rest of the nation.  Don't worry though, we won't be closed for long.  We'll open again on Tuesday at 10 AM for a regular day.  Visit us then and watch as we gear up for the end of school and the beginning of our summer reading program.

Happy Asian Pacific Heritage Month!

Last Saturday at the Maud Marks Library, we had a BLAST!!!  It was time for our annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival.  We kicked off the day with bonsai trees, a diayas craft, and Vietnamese music.  We also had a Japanese Tea Ceremony, belly dancing, a Rangoli demonstration, lei making, Japanese AND Chinese calligraphy, origami, and of course, lots of food!  The highlight of the day was a Vietnamese lion dance complete with silliness.  A great time was had by all.  Click here to see more photos.

Celebrate the Asian Cultures!

Are you looking for something FUN to do with your mother over the weekend?  Come to the Maud Marks Library for our annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival.  We will be celebrating many of the diverse cultures of Asia and the Pacific Rim on May 8, 2010 with a day long party running from 10 AM - 4 PM.  We will have a bonsai demonstration, Japanese Tea Ceremony, sushi demonstration, belly dancing demonstration, a Vietnamese dragon dance, plenty of kids crafts and so much more.  This is a day full of food, fun, and culture for people of ALL ages.  For a complete schedule of the day's events, please call the Maud Marks Library.  Meanwhile, you can click here to see the fun we've had in the past.

Save Money and Support Your Library

We are all looking for ways to save money in the current economy and boy, do we have a deal for you!  The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will have their monthly sale tomorrow.  We have a wide variety of used fiction, nonfiction, and children's books as well as video tapes, magazines and more all for sale from 10 AM -5 PM.  No item sells for over a dollar.  Best of all, all the money raised at our booksales goes right back into the library.  We use that money to buy new books, craft supplies, and pay for our many cultural programs enjoyed by hundreds of people throughout the year among other things.

Spring Break Fun

So, what are you doing over spring break?  Why not spend it at the library?  The Maud Marks Library has events for all ages while school is out.  Infants, toddlers and preschoolers are invited to join us for age appropriate storytimes.  Women (and men) can come for our financial planning seminar on Monday at 3 PM.  Teens can join us for an funfilled afternoon of video and board games on Tuesday at 2 PM.  Older adults can bring their grandchildren and participate in our Senior Moments Wii tournament on Thursday at 1 PM.  Learn how to navigate the Internet on Tuesday at 1 PM.  Finally have time to get your taxes done?  Come by on Monday or Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM to have AARP help you out.  The programs at Maud Marks are open to everyone, although, some programs do require registration.  Click here for a full list of programs and to register
