Tell Me a Story

At the Maud Marks Library, we are all about a good story.  Is there a story in your family just waiting to be told? This Thursday at 1 PM, you can learn how to record all the important events in your family's history. Houston journalist, Gary Taylor, will be here to discuss the importance of oral history and how to make your memories last forever. Seating for this and all programs is limited. How the Library Does Lunch

What's better than a good book or lunch with friends?  How about a good book AND lunch with friends!  At the Maud Marks Library we have always been big on food and books, so we decided to combine them and come up with our newest type of program, a lunch time edible book club.  Once a month we will read a book (not a cookbook) that contains recipes.  Then we'll discuss it as we eat food inspired by that book.  On Thursday, October 22 at 1 PM, we will be discussing Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag.  It is a tale of two women who ran a little southern cafe in Whistle Stop, Alabama during the thirties.

They offered good barbecue, good coffee, love and a little more back in the day.  Join us as we discuss this book over a lunch of fried green tomatoes, cornbread, pork chops & gravy, black-eyed peas, and more! Good food, great conversation, what more could anyone ask for?!

Is That a Dinosaur?

At the Maud Marks Library, we love history and art.  That is why we are so excited to welcome retired Houston Chronicle Artist, Gerald Waxman this Thursday at 7 PM.  He will be here to discuss his renditions of 17,000 to 30,000 year old paintings found in Southern France before World War II.  Many of the animals depicted have been considered extinct and some are considered to be ancestoral to today's species.  Examples of other cave paintings throughout the world will also be shown.  Register here  to join us for this event.
