Toddler Playtime on Friday, October 19

Are you looking for something fun to do with your toddler?  Join us this Friday, October 19 for Toddler Playtime from 10:00-11:00 am.  This program is designed for children 18 months to 3 years old along with a parent or caregiver.  We will have educational toys, books and bubbles.  No tickets are needed for this program.  Just stop by with your toddler to hang out in the Children's Activity Space for awhile.

Why have these books have been banned or challenged by a school or public library?

This past week (September 29 - October 6) was Banned Books Week.  This annual event is sponsored by the American Library Association and other organizations concerned with protecting the freedom to read.  This observation began 30 years ago to call attention to the books that have been banned or challenged from school or public libraries around the United States.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Join us Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 pm for a special evening storytime to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.  The storytime is designed for preschool age children and their families.  It will feature stories, songs, and a craft.  The craft will be a dough ornament for the children to take home and decorate.   Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.   For more information on this program and other programs for children, please call us at 281-488-1906.

Come join our pumpkin patch!

It's October.  The weather is getting a bit cooler.  We don't have frost on the pumpkins yet; but we do have some paper pumpkins that  need decorating.  This month - starting Tuesday, October 2 - we'll have paper pumpkins for children to decorate.    The pumpkins will be at the Kids Information Desk.  We'll also have a few decorating tools such as stick-on eyes, markers, and fun pipe cleaners that the children can use to perk up a pumpkin.  Then they can drop the pumpkin in a special box that we'll have on the desk.  Each day, we'll be putting the pumpkins up on a bulletin board in the Children's Department.  Please help us fill up our pumpkin patch with these festive decorations.
