The Aldine Library is Just a Phone Tweet Away

Photo Courtesy of Jupiter ImagesThe Aldine Branch Library wants to be as accessible as possible to its customers. That's why you can now find the branch on Facebook. Once you do, don't forget to "Like" our page. We hope you will visit the page again and again because it will be updated regularly. Just think of it as another way to get help from your neighborhood library.

Aldine's Hold Shelf Has Moved

Envelopes hold items requested by customersAs a you know the Aldine Branch installed new self checkout machines for customers to enjoy. They have been great for those who just want to grab a book off the shelf and go. To make things even better the library has moved customers' holds to the floor for easy access. That means if you want to come and get the items you ordered and want to avoid any lines at the information desk, then just head over to the self checkout machines.

At 4:30PM we will be gathering in the YA area to listen to Paul Easterling, a professor of African American studies at the University of Houston. Legislative Day is Coming!

Legislative Day is just around the corner and Aldine Branch customers have already made their voices heard. We had over one hundred and twenty comment cards returned to us and many more informed us that they completed the on-line survey. The Aldine Branch can't thank its customers enough. Don't forget that we always have a comment box available at the information desk if you ever want to share anything else with us.

Art Cart 2011

The Aldine Branch teens have begun work on our 3rd annual art cart. The last two years the Aldine cart, along with carts from other branches, have been present at HCPL's booth at the Houston Art Car Parade. Stay tuned for further details and see what the teens come up with this year.

Black History Month Starts Tomorrow!

Student At Computer: Photo Courtesy of Jupiter ImagesTo kick off Black History Month at the Aldine Branch Library a special program will be geared towards teens. Tomorrow, February 1st, join us in the meeting room at 4:00PM for Exploring the Internet: Celebrating Black History Month. It will be a chance to see some of the countless sites dedicated to celebrating this country.

Aldine Customers Love Libraries

On Wednesday, February 16th, libraries all over Texas will be traveling to Austin for Legislative Day, and the Aldine Branch wants to bring our customers. Unfortunately, we can't all pile into a car for a roadtrip, but your voice can go. Thanks to the Texas Library Association's efforts Aldine customers can submit an on-line survey that will reach our state officials. Or if you are in the branch you can fill out a Texans Love Libraries notecard that will be delivered in Austin as well. So look for our dropbox when you visit and feel free to ask staff for assistance if needed.

Anime For Youth

It’s a new year for the Aldine Branch and with a new year comes new activities. Teens, we know that there are a bunch of you out there who enjoy anime and manga. In fact, there are so many of you that we’ll be getting together in the meeting room at 3:30pm the first and third Thursday of every month to explore what we love—manga and anime. For those who are pretty handy with a calendar then you know that this Thursday will be our first meeting of the year. See you there!
